Aussies abroad: Leckie's Bundesliga thriller

Socceroo winger Mat Leckie will remain in the Bundesliga for at least another season after helping FC Ingolstadt to a thrilling draw in Germany overnight.

Leckie got through 83 minutes as FC Ingolstadt played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Hannover at Audi Sportspark.

Alfredo Morales gave Ingolstadt the lead in the 10th minute with a thumping header before the hosts were reduced to 10-men after Romain Bregerie was dismissed for a last-ditch tackle.

But despite the setback, Ingolstadt doubled their advantage in the 25th minute with Moritz Hartmann left unmarked in the area before heading home from close range.

Bottom-placed Hannover fought their way back into the contest with goals to Japanese duo Hiroki Sakai and Hiroshi Kiyotake but it wasn’t enough as the hosts held on for a crucial point.

The result leaves Ingolstadt in 9th spot on the Bundesliga table, 13 points clear of relegation threatened Eintracht Frankfurt with just three matches remaining.

In England, Massimo Luongo started and got through 90 minutes as QPR were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Reading in the Championship.

Elswhere, Jason Davidson played a full match as Huddersfield Town fought back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw at home to Birmingham City.

Bailey Wright played 90 minutes as Preston North End went down 1-0 to League leaders Burnley at Deepdale Stadium, with Joey Barton netting the winner for the visitors.

In League One, James Meredith helped Bradford City to a thumping 4-0 win over Wallsall, with the Socceroo playing the full 90 minutes at Coral Windows Stadium.

The result leaves Bradford in 5th spot on the table and all but confirmed their place in the promotion playoffs with two matches remaining.

In China, Ryan McGowan backed up last week’s goal-scoring effort with an assist in Henan Jianye’s 2-1 win over Yanbian Funde in the Chinese Super League.

McGowan set-up Dane Eddi Gomes for the opener in just the 13th minute, with the Socceroo getting through the full 90 minutes as Jianye continued their impressive start to the season.

Earlier, Tim Cahill and Matt Spiranovic both played full matches as Hangzhou were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Chongqing Lifan.

Trent Sainsbury also played 90 minutes as Jiangsu Suning scored late to earn a 1-1 draw away to Guangzhou R&F.

In Turkey, Aziz Behich got through a full game as Bursaspor suffered a 2-1 defeat to Kayserispor.
