Aussies abroad: Rogic stars in Celtic's thumping win

Tom Rogic starred for Celtic as the Scottish Premiership champions finished their season with a 7-0 thumping of Motherwell.

The Caltex Socceroos playmaker scored Celtic's second goal and set up their sixth in just his fourth league start for Ronny Deila's side since March 2, while Scott McDonald completed a full shift for Motherwell.

Rogic struck in the 26th minute, tapping in after Stuart Armstrong's effort came back off the post.

It was the Australian midfielder's 10th goal for Celtic in all competitions in 2015-16.

Rogic's quick feet set up Ryan Christie in the 59th minute, as he dribbled into an apparent dead-end only to release the striker clear through on goal for a comfortable finish.

Jack Aitchison replaced Rogic with 15 minutes remaining.

In a busy day for Australians in Scotland, goalkeeper Aaron Lennox made his debut for Aberdeen but couldn't stop them from losing 4-0 to Ross County and Socceroos midfielder Jackson Irvine.

Irvine played 80 minutes for the victors before being substituted.

Jackson Irvine set up the first goal in Ross County's 2-1 League Cup win over Hibernian.

South of the border, Brad Smith - who was crowned the Academy's Players' Player of the Year at Liverpool's awards night last week - played a full game for the Reds in their 1-1 draw away to West Bromwich Albion to complete the Premier League season.

Socceroos captain Mile Jedinak also played from start to finish in Crystal Palace's final league game of the campaign but had to endure a 4-1 loss at Southampton, while Jordan Lyden completed 74 minutes in Aston Villa's 4-0 loss to Arsenal.

In the League One promotion play-offs, James Meredith put in a full shift as Bradford City lost their semi-final first leg 3-1 to visiting Millwall.

EUROPE

James Holland finished the 2. Bundesliga season with 90 minutes for MSV Duisburg with a critical 1-0 win over RB Leipzig.

The victory kept Duisburg above FSV Frankfurt, meaning Holland and Co. can avoid dropping down to Germany's third tier if they win a two-legged promotion-relegation play-off.

FSV defeated 1860 Munich and new Socceroos defender Milos Degenek 2-1 but stayed behind Duisburg on goal difference.

German-based defender Milos Degenek has been called up to the Caltex Socceroos squad.

Degenek came on in the 77th minute.

In Italy's second tier, Joshua Brillante played the last 15 minutes of Como's 4-0 win over Spezia, while in Moldova, Antony Golec put in a full shift as Sheriff defeated Saxan 2-0.
