EPL transfer news: Eddie Howe signs Caltex Socceroo

Caltex Socceroo left back Brad Smith says he hopes to progress his career after it was confirmed the 22-year-old had moved from EPL giant Liverpool to Eddie Howe's AFC Bournemouth overnight.

The Australia international has followed in Jordon Ibe's footsteps by making the switch from Anfield to the Cherries, signing a four-year deal at the Vitality Stadium

Smith becomes Howe's sixth summer signing ahead of the new Premier League season in three weeks’ time.

Smith had been in the USA with Jurgen Klopp’s side but cut short the trip once the deal appeared to be done.

“It all happened quite quickly. I knew there was a bit of interest and then they put the bid in, Liverpool accepted and we went from there really,” Smith told the official AFC Bournemouth website.

“I flew to America [with Liverpool] and was there for about five days. Once I found out that the bid had been accepted, I stopped training with the team to make sure everything went the right way.

“It’s a great stadium here and it’s a great opportunity for me to come and play in front of the fans. Hopefully I’ll do well, learn a lot and progress in my career.”

The Aussie defender says his new boss Eddie Howe is someone he’s looking forward to working with.

Brad Smith shadows Greece's Giannis Gianniotas at ANZ Stadium.

At his new club Smith links up with fellow Caltex Socceroo Adam Federici as well as former Liverpool teammate Jordan Ibe.

“Bournemouth did really well last season and I think the club can be a great team in the Premier League for many years to come. They’re just getting started really.

“I think it’ll be a good fit for me and I can’t wait to get going here.”
