Alessandro Circati: The World Cup is what I've been working for
CommBank Socceroos defender Alessandro Circati said that selection for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ would be fulfilling a childhood dream, and has been what he has been working towards over his young career so far.
He recently joined the train-on squad in Sarasota, Florida ahead of the final selection of the 26-player squad on June 1.
Club football with Parma
We did well this year. Our objective was to stay safe, stay in the league next year. We did better than that, so we were safe with five games to go mathematically. 45 points, 12th position (equal 12th) - I'd say we had a positive second year in Serie A.
Coming into camp late
It's been fine. Today was the first session yesterday, we had a day off today. Italy was probably the same degrees, so in that sense I'm sort of used to it. It’s maybe just a bit more humid here, but overall it's been good.
World Cup around the corner
It's so close. It is around the corner. If you start looking at dates and numbers it is very, very close, a little over two weeks away. But we've got these two games now (against Mexico and Switzerland), and obviously the squad hasn't been selected, so I think the boys are all doing their best to try getting in the squad.
It's what I've been working for. It would make me feel like I've achieved something that I'm working for, a dream of mine, something which my younger self probably wasn't even thinking of. To be able to be in this position, to be able to possibly go to one, makes my younger self very proud and very, very content. I'm not content with where I am, but I think it's a nice objective to be able to accomplish.
Friendly against Mexico
It's great to hear there's a lot of people [over 70,000 tickets sold at the Rose Bowl]. It's always good fun. I think we played against Mexico maybe three years back in Texas, and there was like 95 to 100,000 people there. The more people the better, and that stadium I know is a bit iconic, so even better to play in another iconic stadium.
