After nearly a decade abroad, Subway Socceroos defender Aziz Behich has returned home, signing a two-year deal with Melbourne City.
The 32-year-old, who has 59 caps and two goals for his country, had spent the past season in the Scottish Premiership with Dundee United.
But with one year left on his contract, decided to make the move back to Australia following a successful career in Europe where he spent bulk of his time in the Turkish Super Lig at Bursaspor.
The dynamic left-back accumulated 89 appearances between 2010 and 2013 before plying his trade overseas.
Behich experienced a sensational FIFA World Cup campaign in Qatar, playing every minute of every match as Australia reached the Round of 16.
After re-joining the club, Behich said he was delighted to be back closer to loved ones and linking up with some familiar teammates, while looking forward to the upcoming A-League Men season.
"It’s exciting to be back in my hometown, with my friends and family and preparing for a new season with a club that is so close to my heart," he said in Melbourne City's statement.
“I’ve stayed in close contact with Michael and Brad over the years and they have always made me feel like I’m still part of the club.
"The league has grown a lot since I last played at Melbourne Heart, with new teams and a high level of young Australian and international talent on the pitch.
“It’s going to be great to link up again with Leckie, Maclaren and all the City boys. I can’t wait for the season to start and to see the familiar faces in the crowd.”
