CommBank Socceroos Abroad: Big opportunity for Herrington's Hull

7 min read

Lucas Herrington and Hull City will have a chance to pick up a massive three points as they take on fellow promoted side Ipswich Town on the weekend.

Elsewhere, CommBank Socceroos clash in Japan, while Middlesbrough could go five points clear on top of the EFL Championship.

In Focus

Big Opportunity for Herrington's Hull

The first task for Hull City after being promoted via the play-offs last season was always going to be avoiding relegation - and, up against the fellow newly-promoted Ipswich Town, they have a huge opportunity for three points this weekend.

Hull are currently tenth on the table, with two wins and four draws from eight Premier League games so far this season. A win could see them rise as high as fifth.

19-year-old Herrington has started the team's last three Premier League fixtures and has been commended for his assured performances both on and off the ball.

Fixture: Hull City v Ipswich Town, Sunday 1 November, 2.00am AEDT

CommBank Socceroos face off in Japan

Tete Yengi's Machida Zelvia will host Eli Adams' Gamba Osaka on the weekend in the J1 League.

Machida will go into the game as favourites. They are currently flying high on top of the table, with eight wins in twelve matches. Yengi has been a big part of that, contributing three goals and an assist in the league so far this season.

Osaka, meanwhile, will be hoping to improve on their eleven points as they are forced to look over their shoulder and attempt to stave off the teams in the relegation zone. Adams has made seven appearances in the league after moving from the Newcastle Jets in the off-season, two of them starts.

Fixture: Machida Zelvia v Gamba Osaka, Sunday 1 November, 6.00pm AEDT

Top-of-the-table Middlesbrough look to keep up form

Middlesbrough will hope to remain top of the EFL Championship table when they take on Charlton Athletic this weekend.

Riley McGree has been a key part of the side since returning from injury, appearing in all 12 league games and contributing three assists. After a commanding performance last week, the midfielder will once again be a handful to shut down as the Boro search for promotion.

Fixture: Middlesbrough v Charlton, Sunday 1 November, 2.00am AEDT
