The Aussies experienced another successful window following 1-0 and 3-1 wins over New Zealand to retain the Soccer Ashes trophy.

However, with other nations still qualifying for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ they fell one spot with more weight understandably placed on qualifiers than friendlies in FIFA's Ranking procedures and calculations.

Tony Popovic's side (25) dropped one position, overtaken by Ecuador - who beat first-ranked Argentina (now 3) - while remaining the fourth highest-ranked Asian Football Confederation nation after Japan (19) descended two places, IR Iran (21) fell one spot and Korea Republic (23) stayed unchanged.

The last time Australia was ranked 25th was September 2024.

Australia travel to North America to take on two of the three FIFA World Cup 2026™ host nations in the October window.

The Aussies face Canada (26) in Montreal on Saturday, 11 October AEDT before crossing the border and meeting the United States (16) in Colorado on Wednesday, 15 October AEDT.

The next Men's FIFA World Rankings will be published on 23 October.
