Craig Goodwin wins 2023 Johnny Warren Medal

Subway Socceroo Craig Goodwin has clinched the Johnny Warren Medal for a sensational Isuzu Ute A-League 2022/23 season with Adelaide United at the Dolan Warren Awards on Thursday night.

The 31-year-old experienced his most productive regular season of his career, scoring 12 goals and laying on a further 10 assists in 25 matches - the only player to reach double figures in both categories. His strong form continued with the Reds in the Final Series, finding the back-of-the-net three more times.

Goodwin's immense displays also saw him included in Australia's 26-player squad for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, where he opened the scoring against France and also saw his deflected strike breach Emiliano Martinez's goal against Argentina in the Round of 16.

Goodwin, who also won the Aurelio Vidmar Medal for a third time last month, amassed 41 points to fellow Socceroo Brandon Borrello's 33 points, and is the first Reds player since Marcos Flores to claim the prestigious award.

"It's definitely been a challenging year," An emotional Goodwin said, upon accepting the tremendous honour.

"I think I'll definitely start by saying thank you to the medical team at Adelaide.

"I think at the start of the season it was a very challenging time for me in thinking this was probably my last chance to get to a World Cup.

"So to be able to have the support of them and Carl and the other coaches to get back fit and get back playing was fantastic.

"Other than that it's been an amazing year for myself but I owe it all to my teammates at Adelaide and the coaching staff.

"... But the biggest thank you comes to my partner Katelyn and my family, my mum and my dad. But especially the last five, six years I've spent with Katelyn.

"I think my game has gone to another level and I think I've grown massively as a person as well."

Talented young defender Jordan Bos received the A-League Men's Young Footballer of the Year accolade following a standout campaign with Melbourne City.

The 20-year-old netted two goals and three assists from left-back displaying dynamism, composure and maturity beyond his years which culminated in a maiden Subway Socceroos call-up in March, where he debuted against Ecuador in Melbourne.

His phenomenal 2022/23 did not go unnoticed by clubs abroad either, securing a move to Belgian club KVC Westerlo next season, breaking the Australian transfer record for a club selling directly overseas.

Jamie Maclaren won the A-League Men's Golden Boot for a fourth consecutive year and record fifth overall after scoring a prolific 24 goals in the regular season and in the process became the competition's all-time leading scorer, overtaking Besart Berisha's haul of 142 in late April against Western United.
