After the CommBank Socceroos' FIFA World Cup™ 2026 came to an end against Egypt in the Round of 32, we look back at some of the statistics and facts from our seventh appearance at the major tournament.
There were 16 Socceroos who made their FIFA World Cup™ debuts: Patrick Beach, Alessandro Circati, Cameron Burgess, Jordan Bos, Jacob Italiano, Aiden O'Neill, Paul Okon-Engstler, Connor Metcalfe, Mohamed Toure, Nestory Irankunda, Nishan Velupillay, Jason Geria, Tete Yengi, Cristian Volpato, Lucas Herrington, Kai Trewin.
- Australia reached the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup™ for the third time (2006, 2022, 2026) and achieved the feat back-to-back for the inaugural time.
Australia's fielded their youngest ever starting 11 for a FIFA World Cup match at 24.6 years against Türkiye, surpassing the previous youngest line-up of 25.4 years vs Spain in 2014. However it was the second least experienced team with a combined 210 caps compared to 189 caps against the Spaniards.
- Australia's 2-0 win against Türkiye was their fifth at the Finals.
Patrick Beach made eight saves, the most of any goalkeeper for the Socceroos in a FIFA World Cup™ game and the most of any goalkeeper in their World Cup debut since Rüstü Reçber when he produced nine for Türkiye against Brazil in 2002.
Nestory Irankunda (20y 124d) became the youngest player to score a goal for Australia at the World Cup eclipsing Brett Holman (26y 84d), and just the fourth player to score a goal on World Cup debut for Australia, joining John Aloisi, Tim Cahill, and Craig Goodwin.
Lucas Herrington (18y 293d) became the youngest Socceroo to start a match at the FIFA World Cup™ when he appeared against Paraguay. He is the second youngest to feature for the Socceroos overall after Garang Kuol (18y 68d) in 2022.
- Australia's 0-0 draw with Paraguay was their second goalless stalemate at the FIFA World Cup™ and first since 1974 against Chile.
- Patrick Beach recorded two clean sheets for the Socceroos at the FIFA World Cup™ 2026, equalling the record set in the 2022 edition by Maty Ryan. Overall the Socceroos have recorded five shutouts at the showpiece event.
- Jackson Irvine, Maty Ryan and Mathew Leckie are tied with the most Socceroos appearances at the FIFA World Cup™ with 11.
- Australia scored its 20th goal at the FIFA World Cup against Egypt.
- Alessandro Circati (221) completed the most passes for the Socceroos at the tournament
- Aiden O'Neill covered a distance of 47.32km for the Socceroos across the four matches, a team-high.
Nestory Irankunda and Connor Metcalfe became the Socceroos' 10th and 11th goal-scorers respectively at the FIFA World Cup™.
- Paul Okon-Engstler recorded the Socceroos solitary assist of the tournament, setting up Nestory Irankunda's opener.
- Jordan Bos (223) boasted the most sprints by a Socceroo.
Cristian Volpato completed a team-best 12 successful dribbles for the Socceroos - which included five against the United States in 45 minutes on his World Cup debut. It was also the most ever in a match by an Aussie at the tournament.
