John Iredale makes move to Denmark

Subway Socceroos forward John Iredale has made the switch to Denmark, joining recently promoted Danish Superliga outfit Aalborg BK for the upcoming season.

The 24-year-old had spent the past two-and-a-half years in the German lower leagues with SV Wehen Wiesbaden and scored 15 goals in 72 appearances, notching five assists and now arrives to the club on a free transfer.

Iredale made his international debut against Lebanon during the March window and scored in the following match against the same opponent in Canberra.

Iredale said he was excited by the opportunity to link up with his former boss and incumbent AaB head coach in Menno van Dam again.

van Dam coached Iredale while playing in the Netherlands with SC Heerenveen's U19 and U21 sides between 2017 and 2019.

"I worked with Menno (van Dam, AaB's head coach) as a youth player in SC Heerenveen, and when I got the opportunity to work with him again, I knew straight away that I had to pursue it," Iredale explained.

"And I'm very happy to have the opportunity to do that in AaB, which is a big club in Denmark.

"I have heard that there is great support for the team, and I am looking forward to seeing all the fans in the stands when the season starts in a few weeks. I will work hard for the club and contribute to the team by scoring many goals. That's why I'm here."

AaB sporting director Ole Jan Kappmeier said: "John Iredale is a strong striker who is aggressive in his pressing game and a good finisher in the box with both his head and both feet."

The striker will wear the number 29 shirt and could be a chance to feature in AaB's first game of the campaign against FC Nordsjælland, on Saturday, 20 July at 4:00am (AEST).
