Kai Trewin is the latest CommBank Socceroo to call the MLS home after signing with New York City until at least the 2028/29 season, with an option for a further year.
The 24-year-old defender has experienced a meteoric rise at Melbourne City and will join the Club subject to receiving his ITC and P-1 Visa and links up with compatriot Aiden O'Neill.
With Melbourne City, Trewin amassed a total of 47 appearances, scoring three goals, and providing one assist, while winning the Isuzu UTE A-League 2024/25 Championship.
Trewin was also handed the Scott Jamieson Medal, awarded to the Club’s Player of the Year, and the Players’ Player Award, voted on by his peers. His assured displays were further recognised with the Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) Team of the Season accolade.
On the international stage, Trewin's stellar form with City also did not go unnoticed with Socceroos boss Tony Popovic rewarding the versatile player with a senior call-up in March 2025.
He then went on to make his debut during the November window, playing the full 90 minutes in both international friendlies against Venezuela and Colombia.
Speaking on his decision to put pen-to-paper with the side from the Big Apple, Trewin told the club's official website: “I’m excited to join New York City FC and take this next step in my career.
“I’m grateful for my time at Melbourne City FC and for the opportunity to come to a Club with high standards and clear ambitions. I’m looking forward to getting to work, helping the team, and competing every day.”
