Qantas Socceroos striker Josh Kennedy has made an instant impact at his new Japanese J-League club Nagoya Grampus Eight, with a debut goal.

Kennedy who made the switch to the ambitious J-League club in June, put Nagoya ahead just before half time, but it wasn't enough as Kyoto Purple Sanga equalised in the second half to force a 1-1 draw.

The former German-based star headed home in the 42nd minute, to give Nagoya, who are mid-table at the halfway point of the season the lead.

But with nine minutes remaining Paulinho equalised to give both side a point, which didn't either of them any favours.
