Match Preview: China PR U20 v Australia U20 - AFC U20 Asian Cup China 2025™

The Subway Young Socceroos will be aiming to make it three wins from three in their final Group A match against hosts China PR U-20 on Tuesday night at 10:30pm (AEDT).

Trevor Morgan's side has been impressive in its first two matches of the tournament, recording a dominant 5-1 triumph against the Kyrgyz Republic and showing resilience to overturn an early deficit to overcome Qatar 3-1.

Top spot is on the line for the Aussies, who have already guaranteed their place in the knockout stage of the competition. A win or a draw over China PR will see them top the group.

The hosts, meanwhile, defeated Qatar 2-1 and Kyrgyz Republic 5-2 in their opening two matches.

Subway Young Socceroos forward Tiago Quintal insisted the team will be seeking to win the match to continue building momentum in their quest to qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025™ and ultimately try and win the AFC U-20 Asian Cup China 2025™.

The Sydney FC attacker was voted Player of the Match by fans on social media in the victory against Qatar and spoke to Football Australia Media ahead of Tuesday night's clash.

The two nations also encountered in November 2024 during the Panda Cup, playing out a 1-1 draw and Quintal believes facing them recently is beneficial.

What they said

Tiago Quintal

Expecting from China and the benefits of playing them in the Panda Cup last year

I think that will help massively (facing China in November last year). They sit in a compact block, they make it hard to play through the lines, and you can tell they're just very structured. So it will be a very good challenge especially as the host nation. They're definitely going to make it tough, so it will be a good contest.

Hoping to build on strong performance

I was very delighted with the performance. The main thing was that we won (against Qatar). Just being able to be out there on the pitch, it's the best feeling. So being able to show what I can do is just what I need to keep on doing. Because in these tournaments, we've got to be able to deliver because that's what's going to help us win in the end.

Playing with freedom under Trevor Morgan

The position I get to play in is exactly where I want to be. I get to roam around the pitch, get the ball in between the lines, turn, play forward and create chances, which is what I tried to do as much as I could in that game against Qatar.

The impressive attacking combinations

I think just all the boys' qualities interlink so well with each other. It just works perfectly. And then also, our bond off the field just helps so much, because we just know what we want and you can just see that reflects on the pitch so well.

Mentality heading into China match

We want to win the next game. We want to top the group and then hopefully give us the easiest possible run into the quarter finals, and then hopefully into the semi-finals.
