Nestory Irankunda scores in Bayern Munich pre-season friendly

It may be early but Subway Socceroos prodigy Nestory Irankunda is making a strong impression with German giants Bayern Munich.

The 18-year-old signed with the club's reserve team for an undisclosed fee from Adelaide United back in November and joined the Bavarians this offseason after debuting for Australia during June's FIFA Men's Window.

Irankunda has impressed in training and made his Regionalliga Bayern debut last weekend, striking the crossbar in a 1-0 win against SV Wacker Burghausen.

His strong form has already seen him called up by Head Coach Vincent Kompany to train with the senior team.

And in Bayern's first hitout of pre-season, Irankunda came off the bench to score once and assist a further two goals in a 14-1 thumping of local amateur side FC Rottach-Egern. He also saw an acrobatic attempt ricochet off the post in a positive display from the 18-year-old.

Subway Young Socceroo goalkeeper Anthony Pavlesic also played the second-half for Bayern with the pair doing their best to stake a claim in the first-team squad ahead of the Bundesliga season.

Bayern's first competitive match of the 2024/25 campaign is a DFB-Pokal First Round clash away to SSV Ulm on 17 August (AEST).
