Our head-to-head record against our FIFA World Cup™ 2026 Group Stage opponents

After the CommBank Socceroos learned their Group Stage fate at the FIFA World Cup™ 2026, we take a brief look at our record against our upcoming and potential opponents.

Australia was drawn into Group D alongside host nation the United States, South Americans Paraguay and the winner from UEFA Play-off C - which we'll discover during the March FIFA Window.

United States

FIFA Ranking: 14

Head-to-head record: Wins 1, Draws 1, Losses 2

The Aussies have faced the United States four times, most recently during the October FIFA Window. Jordy Bos fired the visitors into the lead in Denver before the hosts scored twice to claim a 2-1 triump and snap Australia's 12-match unbeaten run.

Paraguay

FIFA Ranking: 39

Head-to-head record: Wins 2, Draws 3, Losses 0

Australia have faced the Paraguayans on five previous occasions. The Aussies played three matches in June 2000, drawing the first two 0-0 before prevailing 2-1. The two nations met again in Brisbane six years later in what proved a send off match for Tony Popovic, who retired from international football. The incumbent Socceroos boss scored a late header in what appeared to be the winner before an own goal in stoppage time ensured a share of the spoils.

Their most recent meeting was a 1-0 victory in 2010 at Sydney's Allianz Stadium thanks to a David Carney strike.

Turkiye / Romania / Slovakia / Kosovo

Turkiye

FIFA Ranking: 25

Head-to-head record: Wins 0, Draws 0, Losses 2

Australia and Turkiye have only crossed paths twice - a two-match friendly series in May of 2004 in Sydney and Melbourne which saw both matches end in defeat.

Romania

FIFA Ranking: 47

Head-to-head record: Wins 0, Draws 0, Losses 1

Australia has only encountered Romania once before in a February 2013 friendly. The green and gold conceded two late goals to go down 3-2 after Luke Wilkshire and Robbie Cornthwaite scored for the Aussies.

Slovakia

FIFA Ranking: 45

Head-to-head record: Wins 0, Draws 1, Losses 0

The two sides have faced each other just once in 2000, playing out a 0-0 stalemate at a Four Nations Soccer Tournament in Chile.

Kosovo

FIFA Ranking: 80

Head-to-head record: N/A
