Results: Two changes fans voted for to face Peru

The Socceroos’ FIFA World Cup™ campaign goes on the line at 12am AEST when Australia take on Peru live on SBS and Optus Sport.

A win – coupled with a loss for Denmark against France – would see the Socceroos progress to the knockout stage for the first time since 2006.

GROUP C EQUATION: How the Socceroos can qualify

TIEBREAKERS: The FIFA World Cup™ rule that could decide five groups

Before the massive clash against the already-eliminated South Americans, we asked you - the fans - to vote for who you think should be in Bert van Marwijk's starting XI.

Here's who you've picked for the Socceroos' starting XI for their final Group C clash at the FIFA World Cup™ against Peru in Sochi.

GOALKEEPER

Mat Ryan hasn’t put a foot wrong so far in Russia and was again a standout pick by the fans to start in goal ahead of Danny Vukovic and Brad Jones.

RIGHT BACK

Once a “problem” position for the Socceroos, Josh Risdon has made the right-back spot his own with two eye-catching displays against France and Denmark.

Not only has his form caught the attention of some club’s in Europe but also makes him the fans’ choice to start there over Milos Degenek.

CENTRE BACK PAIRING

Trent Sainsbury backed-up his superb display against France with another near-flawless outing against the Danes and there’s no doubt from the fans he should fill one of the positions in the heart of defence.

The experienced Mark Milligan has been equally as strong as Sainsbury and as a result the Australian supporters are happy to see the pair together again for the must-win encounter against Peru.

If there is to be a change in central defence then either Matt Jurman or Milos Degenek provide a reliable option for van Marwijk.

LEFT BACK

Like Risdon on the right, Aziz Behich appears to have a mortgage on the left-back position with his wholehearted style and quality down the flank.

While Millwall’s James Meredith is confident after a superb season at club level and is a handy option for van Marwijk, the fans want to see Behich given another start.

CENTRE MIDFIELD PAIRING

Having scored both of the Socceroos’ goals so far at the tournament, inspirational skipper Mile Jedinak has been favoured to help shield the back four alongside midfield maestro Aaron Mooy.

The pair have formed a sensational partnership in the first two games and are easily the leading options in the engine room from both Massimo Luongo and Jackson Irvine.

ATTACKING MIDFIELDER

We saw just how good Tom Rogic can be in the game against Denmark and the fans hope the Socceroos boss will stick with his creative flair and skill against Peru.

With the Socceroos needing to score and win in Sochi, Rogic gets the nod from the fans ahead of both Jackson Irvine and Dimitri Petratos.

RIGHT WINGER

The fans were in awe of Mathew Leckie’s performance in the draw against Denmark, with some describing it as the best outing by a winger at the entire tournament.

For that reason, there’s no competition for the Hertha Berlin man when it comes to who starts on the right flank.

Teenager Daniel Arzani received the next most votes, while the injured Andrew Nabbout and Dimitri Petratos were other options.

LEFT WINGER

While Robbie Kruse has started the first two group games – and performed admirably in both matches – the fans would love to see youngster Daniel Arzani unleashed from the start.

The 19-year-old – the youngest player in Russia – has created a chance every 9 minutes and 20 seconds on the pitch, the most frequent of any player at the tournament.

Most feel the Melbourne City starlet deserves a spot on the left wing ahead of Kruse, Andrew Nabbout and Dimitri Petratos.

STRIKER

With Andrew Nabbout set to miss the match with a shoulder injury, the fans are desperate to see Tim Cahill in from the start for the must-win clash with Peru.

Cahill, Australia’s all-time leading scorer, is looking to play and find the net at a fourth FIFA World Cup™ and this would be the perfect time for him to deliver like he has done so often in the past.

Jamie Maclaren, who has also yet to see any game time in Russia, is the next best option to lead the attack – according to the fans – ahead of Tomi Juric who has been used as a substitute against both France and Denmark, and offers a different striking option for van Marwijk.
