Socceroos Abroad; Baccus debut assist, English Championship Socceroos get underway

Some Socceroos in England kicked off their campaigns over the weekend as Socceroos around Europe played their second game of the season. 

Keanu Baccus made an instant impression on debut and there were some other top performances in Asia.

In the EFL League One, Keanu Baccus (cap #628) earned an assist on competitive debut in his 83 minutes for Mansfield Town on Saturday as they beat Barnsley 2-1.

 

In the opening round of Thai League, Kenny Dougall (cap #608) played all of Buriram United’s 4-0 win against Nong Bua Pitchaya. Dougall misplaced only three passes throughout the match and kept a clean sheet playing at centre-back.

In J League, Mitch Langerak (cap #566) put in a top performance as Nagoya Grampus’ goalkeeper, keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Tokyo Verdy on Sunday night.

 

Over to the EFL Championship, where Riley McGree (cap #509) got through 90 minutes for Middlesbrough in their 1-0 win over Swansea City. 

Callum Elder (cap #614) played until the 90th minute of Derby County’s 4-2 loss to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday morning.

Samuel Silvera (cap #634) played the first half of Portsmouth's 3-3 draw with Leeds United on Saturday night.

Harry Souttar (cap #606) made the Sheffield United squad for their 2-0 win over Preston North End on Saturday.

In the Scottish Premiership, Cameron Devlin (cap #625) and Kye Rowles (cap #622) started Hearts’ 3-1 loss to Dundee FC. Devlin played 70 minutes, while Rowles played the full match.

Elsewhere in the competition, Martin Boyle (cap #599) and Lewis Miller (cap #635) played full games for Hibernian in their 2-0 loss to Celtic on Sunday.

Also, Apostolos Stamatelopoulos (cap #644) played 44 minutes before succumbing to an apparent thigh injury for Motherwell as they lost 2-1 to Rangers Sunday.

In the Scottish Championship, Ryan McGowan (cap #546) played all of Queen’s Park’s 1-1 draw with Livingston on Saturday morning.

Cameron Burgess (cap #633) and Massimo Luongo (cap #571) started Ipswich Town’s 1-0 win over Nice on Sunday in a friendly. Burgess played the full match while Luongo got through an hour.

In the Coppa Italia in Italy, Alessandro Circati (cap #637) played the second half of Parma’s 1-0 loss to Palermo Monday morning.

In Belgium’s First Division A, Aiden O’Neill (cap #629) played a full game in midfield for Standard Liege as they played out a 0-0 stalemate with KV Mechelen on Saturday morning. O’Neill completed 42 of his 51 passes and made three interceptions.

In the Danish Superligaen, Paul Izzo played in goal for Randers' 2-0 loss to Silkeborg on Sunday night.

Gianni Stensness (cap #671) played a full game in defence for Viking as the side drew 1-1 with Bodo/Glimt on Sunday morning in Noway’s Eliteserien.

Fran Karicic (cap #607) played at right back for NK Lokomotiva as they drew 1-1 with Hajduk Split in the Croatian top flight on Sunday.

On Sunday night in the Swiss Super League, Awer Mabil (cap #597) played from the 85th minute of Grasshopper’s 1-0 loss to St. Gallen

In the J1 League on Sunday night, Mitch Duke (cap #559) came on in the 74th minute of Machida Zelvia’s 1-0 loss to Shonan Bellmare.

Jackson Irvine (#568) and Connor Metcalfe (#611) started St. Pauli’s 3-0 friendly win over Atalanta on Saturday. Irvine played 72 minutes, while Metcalfe played the first half.

Nestory Irankunda (cap #643) was on the Bayern Munich bench for their 3-2 friendly victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday morning.

Joe Gauci (cap #631) came on at the hour mark for Aston Villa as they lost 2-0 to Borussia Dortmund in a friendly on Sunday morning.

Maty Ryan (cap #555) was in the squad for Roma’s 1-1 friendly draw with Everton on Sunday.
