Socceroos Abroad: Boyle continues scoring form, Souttar helps earn another clean sheet

There were some strong performances from our Socceroos abroad as they returned to club action this weekend, with Martin Boyle continuing his rich vein of goal-scoring form in Scotland, while Harry Souttar put in another strong defensive display in the EFL Championship.

Martin Boyle (cap #599) secured his fourth goal contribution in his last four games for Hibernian, coming off the bench in the 62nd minute to score on Sunday in the Scottish Premiership. Boyle’s goal, 10 minutes after coming on, doubled Hibs' lead over St Johnstone, resulting in a 2-0 victory for the side. Boyle now has 10 goal involvements (five goals, five assists) in 10 games across all competitions so far this season. Lewis Miller (cap #635) also featured for Hibs, coming on in the 83rd minute.
 

 


Harry Souttar (cap #606) helped keep another clean sheet for Sheffield United as they beat Hull City 2-0 on Sunday in the EFL Championship. The Socceroos centre-back put in a strong display at the heart of defence, winning 100% of aerial duels (4/4), making three interceptions, six clearances and four headed clearances. The defender has now played the full 90 minutes in each of the Blades' last three Championship matches. 

There was good news on the injury front as Jordan Bos (cap #632) made his return for Westerlo in a 2-2 draw with Anderlecht on Sunday morning in Belgium’s First Division A. Bos came off the bench in the 69th minute.

In the same competition, Aiden O’Neill (cap #629) played all of Standard Liege’s 2-0 win over FCV Dender EH on Saturday morning in Belgium’s First Division A.

Meanwhile, in the EFL Championship, Riley McGree (cap 609) also made his long-awaited return from injury, featuring in the matchday squad for Middlesbrough as they drew 1-1 with Preston North End on Sunday.

Also on Sunday, Callum Elder (cap #614) played 82 minutes of Derby’s 1-0 win over Alexander Robertson’s (cap #630) Cardiff City on Sunday morning. Callum Elder assisted Derby’s goal just before the half-hour mark. Robertson came on in the 69th minute for Cardiff.
 

 


In the same competition, Samuel Silvera (cap #634) came on at the hour mark of Portsmouth’s 3-0 loss to West Brom on Monday morning.

In the English Premier League, Massimo Luongo (cap #571) came on in the 85th minute of Ipswich Town’s 0-0 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday morning.

Joe Gauci (cap #631) was on the bench for Aston Villa in their 3-2 win over Everton on Sunday.

In League One, Keanu Baccus (cap #628) played from the hour mark as Mansfield Town lost 2-1 to Cambridge United on Saturday night.

In the Scottish Premiership on Sunday morning, Kye Rowles (cap #622) started in Hearts’ 2-0 loss to Celtic, while Cameron Devlin (cap #625) came on in the 72nd minute for Hearts.

Also in the competition, Josh Nisbet (cap #642) played 79 minutes of Ross County's 2-0 win against Dundee on Sunday.

In the Scottish Championship, Ryan McGowan (cap #546) contributed to a clean sheet for Livingston as they beat Hamilton Academical 3-0 on Sunday morning.

On Monday morning, Jackson Irvine (#568) played a full game for St. Pauli in their 3-1 loss to Augsburg in the Bundesliga.

In Serie A, Maty Ryan (cap #555) was the backup goalkeeper for Roma in their 1-1 draw with Genoa on Sunday.

In Italy’s Serie B, Ajdin Hrustic (cap #589) made his Salernitana debut, playing the first half for the Serie B side in their 3-2 loss to Pisa on Sunday morning.

In J. League on Saturday night, Mitch Duke (cap #559) played from the 73rd minute of Machida Zelvia’s 3-0 win against Avispa Fukuoka, with his side returning to the top of the league as outright leaders after rivals Sanfrecce Hiroshima dropped points.

Also on Saturday night, Mitch Langerak (cap #566) was the goalkeeper for Nagoya Grampus as they lost 4-1 to FC Tokyo.

Finally, Thomas Deng (cap #598) was subbed on in the 71st minute of Albirex Niigata’s 3-1 win over Shonan Bellmare on Saturday night.

Patrick Yazbek (cap #641) played the second half for Huntsville City in their 6-3 win over Atlanta United 2 in MLS Next Pro. Huntsville City is Nashville’s reserve team.

In Singapore’s Premier League, Bailey Wright (cap #576) helped keep a clean sheet for Lion City Sailors in a 6-0 win over Tanjong Pagar United on Saturday night.

In Noway’s Eliteserien, Gianni Stensness (cap #671) kept a clean sheet in his full game for Viking as they beat KFUM 1-0 on Sunday morning.

In the Greek Super League, Jason Davidson (cap #545) made his debut for Panserraikos as they drew 2-2 with Levadiakos on Monday morning. Davidson come on just after the hour mark. 

Fran Karicic (cap #607) kept a clean sheet playing all of NK Lokomotiva’s 2-0 win against NK Istra 1961 on Sunday morning in Croatia’s HNL.

Dimitri Petratos (cap #593) and Jason Cummings (cap #626) started Mohun Bagan’s 2-2 draw with Mumbai City in the Indian Super League. Petratos played a full game, while Jason Cummings played 89 minutes.

In the Saudi Pro League, Craig Goodwin (cap #562) played 61 minutes of Al Wehda’s 7-1 loss to Al Ittihad on Sunday morning.

Cameron Peupion bagged a hat-trick on Saturday morning in Brighton and Hove Albion’s 4-0 win over Reading in Premier League 2.

Nectarios Triantis kept a clean sheet for Hibernian in their 2-0 win over St Johnstone on Sunday in the Scottish Premiership.

In the Austrian Bundesliga, Jacob Italiano played 65 minutes at full-back for Grazar AK as they drew 1-1 with Altach on Sunday.
