Socceroos Abroad: Burgess earns vital win with Ipswich, Irvine tops Bundesliga ranking

Several Socceroos completed the full 90 minutes in their midweek matches, picking up some important results in the context of their clubs' seasons.

There are set to be plenty more Socceroos involved this weekend as they edge towards the business end of the campaign. 

Here is a look at the action.

In the English Premier League, Cameron Burgess (cap #633) played the entirety of Ipswich Town’s 2-1 win over Bournemouth on Saturday morning, racking up 13 clearances in an impressive display at the back. The victory leaves Ipswich nine points away from safety with eight games to play. Massimo Luongo (cap #575) was on the Ipswich bench. 


The Socceroos centre-back could feature against Wolves on Sunday at 1:00 am (AEDT).

In the Bundesliga, Jackson Irvine (cap #568) is likely to start and Connor Metcalfe (cap #611) could get more minutes for St. Pauli as they host Borussia M’gladbach on Sunday at 11:30 pm (AEDT). 

Irvine is enjoying a fine debut season in Germany's top flight and currently leads the division for distance covered, having clocked up an almighty 330.2km so far. The Socceroos midfielder has also managed six assists in the Bundesliga, enough to rank joint 11th in the league.
 

 


Maty Ryan (cap #555) should be in net for Lens when they welcome Saint-Etienne on Sunday at 11:00 pm (AEDT) in Ligue 1. Ryan has kept four clean sheets in his first seven games for his new club.

 

 

Martin Boyle (cap #599), Lewis Miller (cap #635) and Nectarios Triantis should all start for Hibernian when they travel to Rangers on Sunday at 1:00 am (AEDT) in the Scottish Premiership.

Cameron Devlin (cap #625) could start for Hearts against Ryan Strain’s (cap #624) Dundee United on Sunday at 11:30 pm (AEDT).

Josh Nisbet (cap #642) could be in the team for Ross County’s clash with Aberdeen on Sunday at 1:00 am (AEDT).

In the Greek Super League, Jason Davidson (cap #545) is likely to start for Panserraikos in their away clash with Levadiakos on Sunday at 1:00 am (AEDT).

Fran Karacic (cap #607) should start for NK Lokomotiva in their home tie with Rijeka on Monday at 12:00 am in Croatia’s HNL.

In the Danish Superligaen, Mohamed Toure (cap #636) played 69 minutes for Randers in their 1-0 loss to Kobenhavn on Tuesday morning. Paul Izzo was Randers’ goalkeeper.

The pair are likely to feature on Monday at 2:00 am (AEDT) as Randers take on Nordsjaelland.

Milos Degenek’s (cap #585) FK TSC Backa Toplola prevailed in a penalty win over Partizan on Thursday in the Serbian Cup. Degenek is likely to start in his team’s final regular season game against Zeleznicar on Sunday at 2:00 am (AEDT).

Craig Goodwin (cap #562) could be back in action for Al-Wehda when they face Al-Shabab in the Saudi Pro League on Monday at 4:00 am (AEDT).

In EFL League One, Keanu Baccus (cap #628) came on in the 65th minute of Mansfield Town’s 2-1 loss to Charlton Athletic on Wednesday. The midfielder could be involved again on Sunday at 1:00 am (AEDT) against Charlton Athletic.

Samuel Silvera (cap #634) was subbed on in the 65th minute of Blackpool’s 3-0 win over Reading on Wednesday morning. The winger should be in the squad for Blackpool’s clash with Rotherham on Sunday at 1:00 am (AEDT).

Gethin Jones (cap #639) helped Bolton Wanderers see out a 1-0 win over Wigan Athletic on Wednesday morning, coming on in second-half stoppage time. Jones could start on Sunday at 1:00 am (AEDT) against Bristol Rovers.

In the EFL Championship, Callum Elder (cap #614) played all of Derby County’s 2-0 win over Preston North End on Thursday. Elder could start on Sunday at 1:00 am (AEDT) against Swansea City.

Riley McGree (cap #509) and Tom Glover are likely to be in the squad for Middlesbrough as they travel to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday at 6:00 am (AEDT).

Also, Alex Robertson (cap #630) could be involved for Cardiff City's away trip to Queens Park Rangers on Sunday at 1:00 am (AEDT).

In Major League Soccer, Kye Rowles (cap #622) is set to start for DC United when they take on San Jose Earthquakes on Monday at 7:00 am (AEDT).

Elsewhere in MLS, Patrick Yazbek (cap #641) is likely to get some minutes for Nashville when they travel to Charlotte on Sunday at 4:30 am (AEDT)

Finally, Brad Smith (cap #575) could get some game time for Cincinnati against New England on Sunday at 9:30 am (AEDT).
