Socceroos Abroad: Gauci debuts, Hrustic assists, Aussies face off across the globe

Joe Gauci made his long-awaited Aston Villa debut during the week, Ajdin Hrustic bagged his first assist for Salernitana, while Aussies will face off against each other in England, Scotland and Belgium this weekend.

Meanwhile, Craig Goodwin is set to face Cristiano Ronaldo and Mitch Duke could feature in Machida Zelvia's crucial top-of-table clash in the J.League.

Starting in England's Carabao Cup third-round, where Joe Gauci (cap #631) made his debut in goal for Aston Villa in a 2-1 win against Wycombe Wanderers.

It was a promising first Aston Villa performance from Gauci - who made five saves on the night - as Villa reached the fourth round of the Cup and Unai Emery became the fastest manager in the club's history to reach 50 wins (90 games). 

 

They return to Premier League action on Sunday at 11pm (AEST) against Cam Burgess (cap #633) and Massimo Luongo's (cap #571) Ipswich Town.

Ajdin Hrustic (cap #589) picked up his first assist for Salernitana in their 3-1 Coppa Italia defeat to Udinese earlier in the week. Hrustic managed 55 minutes on the night and has now played in each of the Serie B side's last four matches. 

He will look to make that five on Sunday when Salernitana host Catanzaro at 11pm (AEST).

In J.League, Mitch Duke (cap #559) is likely to feature in Machida Zelvia’s top-of-the-table clash with Sanfrecce Hiroshima on Saturday at 8pm (AEST).

With seven games remaining this match is likely to prove pivotal in the title race as Machida and Sanfrecce are equal on 59 points at the top of the table.

Promoted last season as J2 League champions, Machida are closing in on making history in their first season in the Japanese top flight.

 

 

Elsewhere in Japan, Thomas Deng's (cap #598) Albirex Niigata face Kawasaki Frontale on Friday at 8pm (AEST) while Mitch Langerak's (cap #566) Nagoya Grampus play Júbilo Iwata on Saturday at 5pm (AEST).

In the Championship, Riley McGree (cap #509) should be involved for Middlesbrough when they face Stoke City on Sunday at 12am (AEST).

Elsewhere in the Championship, Harry Souttar (cap #606) is likely to appear again for Sheffield United when they face Samuel Silvera (cap #634) and Kusini Yengi's (cap #638) Portsmouth on Sunday at 12am (AEST).

Callum Elder's (cap #614) Derby County also face Norwich City on Saturday at 9:30pm (AEST) while Alexander Robertson's (cap #630) Cardiff City take on Hull City on Sunday at 12am (AEST).

In League One, Keanu Baccus (cap #628) should play again for Mansfield Town when they travel to Northampton Town FC on Sunday at 12am (AEST). 

In the Europa League, Maty Ryan's (cap #555) was also on the bench for Roma in 1-1 draw with Athletic Club on Friday.

They return to Serie A action on Sunday at 11pm (AEST) against Venezia FC.

In the Belgian First Division A, there is another battle of the Aussies as Jordan Bos (cap #632) could feature again for K.V.C. Westerlo when they face Aiden O’Neill's (cap #629) Standard de Liège on Sunday at 2:15am (AEST). 

Over to Germany, where Jackson Irvine (#568) and Connor Metcalfe's (#611) St Pauli face another tough task in third-placed SC Freiburg on Saturday at 11:30pm (AEST) in the Bundesliga.

St Pauli were left frustrated last weekend after missing gilt-edged chances in a 0-0 home draw for the club's first point in the top league against RB Leipzig.

To Bayern Munich, where Nestory Irankunda (cap #643) could feature for the second team in their Regionalliga match against TSV Buchbach on Saturday at 3am (AEST).

The first team face Bayer 04 Leverkusen in a top-of-the-table clash on Sunday at 2:30am (AEST).

Over to Scotland, where Kye Rowles (cap #622) and Cameron Devlin (cap #625) should play again for Heart of Midlothian as they look to move off the bottom of the table with their first win of the campaign against Josh Nisbet's (cap #642) Ross County on Sunday at 12am (AEST) in the Scottish Premiership.

Hearts parted ways with head coach Steven Naismith following a run of eight successive defeats last weekend.

Elsewhere in Scotland's top flight, Hibernian's Lewis Miller (cap #635) and Martin Boyle (cap #599) will be hoping to pick up points when they face Rangers on Sunday at 9pm (AEST).

In the Scottish Championship, Ryan McGowan (cap #546) should start for Livingston against Airdrieonians FC on Sunday at 12am (AEST) while his brother Dylan McGowan’s (cap #590) Hamilton Academical face Partick Thistle FC at the same time.

In Saudi Arabia, Craig Goodwin (cap #562) is likely to feature for Al-Wehda on Saturday at 1:20am (AEST) when they face Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr FC.

In the Swiss Super League, recent Socceroos returnee Awer Mabil (cap #597) should feature again for Grasshopper when they face Young Boys on Sunday at 4:30am (AEST).

Over to Denmark, where Mohamed Toure (cap #636) and Paul Izzo are likely to appear for Randers when they return to Danish Superliga action against FC Midtjylland on Sunday at 12am (AEST).

John Iredale's (cap #640) AaB Fodbold also face Sønderjyske Fodbold on Sunday at 10pm (AEST).

In France, Denis Genreau (cap #610) could feature when Toulouse continue their Ligue 1 campaign against Lyon on Sunday at 11pm (AEST).

In Sweden, Alex Gersbach (cap #587) could also feature for Kalmar FF when they face IF Elfsborg on Monday at 12:30am (AEST).

In Norway’s Eliteserien, Gianni Stensness (cap #671) should also play for Viking FK when they face Lillestrøm SK on Monday at 1am (AEST).

In Croatia’s HNL, Fran Karicic (cap #607) is likely to start for NK Lokomotiva when they travel to GNK Dinamo Zagreb on Sunday at 4am (AEST).

In Major League Soccer, Brad Smith (cap #575) could feature again for Houston Dynamo when they face the Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday at 12:30am (AEST).

In the K1 League, Harrison Delbridge's (cap #623) bottom-placed Incheon United face Pohang Stealers on Friday at 8:30pm (AEST).

Jason Cummings (cap #626), Dimitri Petratos (cap # 593) and Jamie Maclaren (cap #584) continue the Indian Super League season for Mohun Bagan SG against league leaders Bengaluru FC on Sunday at 12am (AEST).

Kenny Dougall (cap #608) should feature again for Buriram United when they head to Australia to face the Central Coast Mariners in the AFC Champions League on Tuesday at 6pm (AEST).

Starting in the Austrian Bundesliga, where Jacob Italiano is likely to feature again for Grazer AK when they face SK Austria Klagenfurt on Monday at 1am (AEST). 

Louis D'Arrigo might be involved for Lechia Gdansk as they face Widzew Łódź on Saturday at 4am (AEST).

D'Arrigo made his first appearance since July in the Polish Cup on Tuesday and scored a goal as Gdansk drew 1-1 with GKS Pogoń Grodzisk Mazowiecki before losing 4-3 on penalties. 

 

In England, Cameron Peupion could feature for Brighton and Hove Albion's academy on Friday at 10pm (AEST) against Middlesbrough under-21 in Premier League 2.

Elsewhere, Nectarios Triantis could feature again for Hibernian when they face Rangers on Sunday at 9pm (AEST).

Over to the USA, Lachlan Brook could feature for Real Salt Lake City in the MLS on Sunday at 10:30am (AEST) against Austin.

Giuseppe Bovalina could also feature for the Vancouver Whitecaps when they return to MLS action on Sunday at 12:30pm (AEST) against Portland.
