Socceroos Abroad: Goodwin goal and assist, Stamatelopoulos scores, Duke eyes fairy-tale title

Craig Goodwin and Apostolos Stamatelopoulos delivered standout moments for their clubs this week, with Goodwin notching both a goal and an assist and Stamatelopoulos finding the back of the net in Scotland.

Starting in Saudi Arabia, where Craig Goodwin (cap #562) put in a standout display for Al-Wehda with a goal and an assist across 90 minutes in a 3-2 loss to Al-Okhdood Club on Friday.

The defeat leaves Al-Wehda in the relegation zone as the Saudi league now breaks until January 10. 

 


In more midweek action, Apostolos Stamatelopoulos (cap #644) played 68 minutes and scored a goal for Motherwell in a 4-1 loss to Dundee in the Scottish Premiership on Friday.

They return to action against St Mirren on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

 


Kye Rowles (cap #622) and Cameron Devlin (cap #625) should also appear for Heart of Midlothian when they host Dundee on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

Lewis Miller (cap #635) and Martin Boyle's (cap #599) Hibernian host Celtic on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

Josh Nisbet's (cap #642) Ross County also host Rangers on Sunday at 11pm (AEDT) while Ryan Strain's (cap #624) Dundee United face Kilmarnock on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). 

Strain has completed three consecutive 90-minute performances for his Dundee United side in recent weeks, contributing to two clean sheets and an impressive draw against Scottish giants Rangers FC. United currently sit fourth in the Scottish Premiership ladder.

In the Scottish Championship, Ryan McGowan (cap #546) should start for Livingston against Greenock Morton FC on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) while his brother Dylan McGowan’s (cap #590) Hamilton Academical face Dunfermline Athletic FC at the same time.

In the Belgian Cup round of 16, Jordan Bos (cap #632) played another full game for KVC Westerlo as they were knocked out of the competition with a 4-1 loss to Anderlecht on Friday.

They return to Belgian league action on Monday at 5:15am against FCV Dender E.H.

Aiden O’Neill (cap #629) also played a full game for Standard de Liège as they crashed out of the Belgian Cup with a 2-1 loss to Genk on Thursday.

They host Oud-Heverlee Leuven on Sunday at 4:15am (AEDT).

In England's League One, Keanu Baccus (cap #628) played a full game for Mansfield Town in a 3-1 loss to Bolton on Wednesday. They host fifth-placed Huddersfield on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

A strong start to life in League One had Baccus' side inside the top six, but three straight defeats have seen them slip to 10th as they look to make up ground and push for a play-off position. 


In the Premier League, Joe Gauci's (cap #631) Aston Villa take on Southampton on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

Cam Burgess (cap #633) and Massimo Luongo (cap #571) could also feature on Monday at 1am (AEDT) when Ipswich host Bournemouth. 

In the English Championship, Riley McGree (cap #509) could feature for Middlesbrough when they travel to second-placed Burnley on Saturday at 7am (AEDT). 

McGree missed Saturday's success against Hull after suffering a dead leg in the defeat to Blackburn Rovers, and it's not clear at this stage how long he will be sidelined for.

After a challenging start to the season, Boro now sit in fifth place with a series of tough and potentially season-defining fixtures coming up in Burnley, Leeds, and Millwall. Burnley have lost just once in their last 15 games, Leeds boast seven home wins from nine matches with 20 goals scored, and Millwall remain unbeaten since October 1.

The next two weeks will be pivotal in revealing the true potential of Michael Carrick’s side and shaping their ambitions for the season.

Samuel Silvera (cap #634) could feature when Portsmouth host Bristol City on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) in the Championship, with Socceroos teammate Kusini Yengi (cap #638) currently sidelined with a knee injury.

Elsewhere in the league, Callum Elder (cap #614) should also feature for Derby County when they travel to third-placed Leeds United on Saturday at 11:30pm (AEDT) while Alexander Robertson's (cap #630) Cardiff City host Watford on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

In the Greek Cup round of 16, Jason Davidson (cap #545) came on at half-time for Panserraikos as they lost 3-0 to Panionios FC on Friday.

They return to Greek Superliga action on Sunday morning against the same side. 

In the German Bundesliga, Jackson Irvine (#568) should start for St Pauli when they face third-placed Leverkusen on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). Connor Metcalfe (#611) could also return from injury.

To Bayern Munich, where Nestory Irankunda (cap #643) is likely to feature for the second team in their Regionalliga match against FC Augsburg II on Saturday at 5am (AEDT). The Bayern first team face 1. FC Heidenheim on Sunday at 1:30am (AEDT).

In Italy's Serie A, Maty Ryan (cap #555) is likely to be on the bench when Roma host U.S. Lecce on Sunday at 6:45am (AEDT).


Elsewhere in Italy, Ajdin Hrustic (cap #589) should feature again for Salernitana in Serie B when they host Modena FC 2018 on Sunday at 1am (AEDT).

In the Danish Cup quarter-finals, John Iredale's (cap #640) AaB Fodbold face Silkeborg IF on Monday at 1:30am (AEDT). 

In the Eredivisie, recent Socceroos call-up Max Balard should feature for NAC Breda on Monday at 4:45am (AEDT) against Sparta Rotterdam.

In Serbia, recent Socceroos returnee Milos Degenek (cap #585) could also feature for FK Crvena Zvezda on Sunday at 3am (AEDT) against FK Tekstilac Ites.

In Switzerland, Awer Mabil (cap #597) should feature again for Grasshopper when they return to Swiss Superliga action on Monday at 12:15am (AEDT) against FC Lausanne-Sport. 

Mitch Duke (cap #599) should be in the team for Machida Zelvia’s home game against Kashima Antlers on Sunday at 4:00 pm (AEDT) in J.League.

Duke's side are now just three points off first place heading into the final game this weekend, remaining in contention for what would be a fairy-tale title.

Also in Japan’s top flight, Thomas Deng (cap #598) should be in Albirex Niigata’s squad when they travel to Urawa Red Diamonds at the same time. It was recently announced that Deng will leave Albirex Niigata at the end of the season. 

Mitch Langerak will play his final game for Nagoya Grampus when they face John Hutchinson's Yokohama F. Marinos on Sunday at 4pm (AEDT).

In France, Denis Genreau (cap #610) could feature again when Toulouse continues their Ligue 1 campaign against AS Monaco on Sunday at 3am (AEDT).

In Croatia’s HNL, Fran Karacic (cap #607) is likely to start for NK Lokomotiva when they travel to NK Osijek on Monday at 3:30am (AEDT).

Jason Cummings (cap #626), Dimitri Petratos (cap # 593) and Jamie Maclaren (cap #584) continue the Indian Super League season for Mohun Bagan SG against NorthEast United FC on Monday at 1am (AEDT).

Kenny Dougall (cap #608) should feature for Buriram United alongside Curtis Good (cap #569) when they take on Johor Darul Ta'zim FC in the AFC Champions League Elite on Tuesday.

They host Ratchaburi FC on Sunday at 10pm (AEDT) in the Thai League.

Starting in the Austrian Bundesliga, where Jacob Italiano is likely to feature again for Grazer AK when they face TSV Hartbergon Monday at 12:30am (AEDT).

Louis D'Arrigo might be involved for Lechia Gdansk as they face Śląsk Wrocław on Sunday at 12:45am (AEDT).

Elsewhere, Nectarios Triantis could feature again for Hibernian when they host Celtic on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).
