Socceroos Abroad: Irvine returns, D'Agostino scores & Miller assists

It was a productive weekend for the Socceroos abroad, headlined by Nick D’Agostino’s goal for Viking FK and Lewis Miller’s assist for Blackburn Rovers.

Jackson Irvine also made his long-awaited return from a foot injury, while Jordan Bos and Cameron Devlin featured in top-of-the-table clashes.

Commbank Socceroos

Starting in Germany's Bundesliga, Connor Metcalfe (cap #611) came off the bench in the 61st minute while Jackson Irvine (cap #568) also appeared off the bench in the 86th minute as St. Pauli lost 2-0 to Eintracht Frankfurt. 

Irvine returned to the pitch after 195 days out with a foot injury that required surgery and months of rehabilitation, marking his first appearance since April.

In Norway, returning Socceroo Nick D'Agostino (cap #621) came off the bench in the 69th minute and scored the final goal in Viking's 5-1 win over Bryne FK on Sunday.

Gianni Stensness (cap #617) also came off the bench at half time.

Max Balard (cap #652) played 82 minutes on Saturday for NAC Breda in a 3-3 draw with SC Heerenveen in the Eredivisie.

In the EFL Championship action, Lewis Miller (cap #635) played a full game for Blackburn and assisted in a 2-1 win over Southampton FC  on Sunday. 


Elsewhere in the Championship, Cameron Burgess (cap #633) played a full game for Swansea City in a 2-1 win over Norwich City FC on Sunday.

Hayden Matthews (cap #648) started, played 77 minutes and scored an own goal for Portsmouth as they lost 1-0 to Stoke City on Saturday. 

Nestory Irankunda (cap #643) came off the bench in the 64th minute for Watford in a 3-1 loss to league leaders Coventry on Saturday.

Sam Silvera (cap #634) was substituted on for Middlesbrough at half time in a 1-1 draw with Wrexham AFC on Sunday. Riley McGree (cap #509) was also an unused substitute.

Callum Elder (cap #614) also played the full game for Derby in a 1-0 win over QPR in the Championship on Sunday.

In League One, Alex Robertson (cap #630) started and played 77 minutes for Cardiff City on Saturday in a 0-0 draw with Bolton.


In the Netherlands, Jordan Bos (cap #632) played 72 minutes on Monday for Feyenoord as they suffered their first defeat of the campaign in a 3-2 loss to fellow title challengers PSV.

The result puts PSV level on points with Feyenoord at the top of the Eredivisie after a dramatic contest in De Kuip.

Elsewhere in the Eredivisie, Ajdin Hrustic (cap #589) played the full game as Heracles Almelo suffered a disappointing 3-0 loss to fellow relegation battlers FC Volendam on Sunday. 

In Italy on Sunday, Alessandro Circati (cap #637) played a full game for Parma and helped keep a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw with Como. 

The point sees Parma in 15th position on the Serie A ladder, and up next is an away trip to the Italian capital to take on AS Roma. 

In Denmark, Paul Izzo (cap #650) was in goal and kept a clean sheet for Randers while Mohamed Toure (cap #636) also started and played 76 minutes in a 0-0 draw with Sønderjyske Fodbold on Monday.

In Spain, Maty Ryan (cap #555) was also in goal for Levante in a 1-1 draw with RCD Mallorca on Monday.

In Serbia, Milos Degenek (cap #585) played 68 minutes on Sunday as TSC Backa Topola lost 2-1 to FK Radnički 1923.

In Hungary, Daniel Arzani (cap #596) came off the bench at half time for Ferencvárosi TC in a 2-1 loss to Zalaegerszegi TE FC on Monday.

In the Scottish Premiership, Martin Boyle (cap #599) came off the bench in the 60th minute while September window call-up Jack Iredale played the full game for Hibernian in a 2-1 win over Aberdeen FC on Monday. 

Nicolas Milanovic (cap #651) also came off the bench at half time for Aberdeen. 

Cameron Devlin (cap #625) played a full game for Heart of Midlothian FC in a 3-1 win over Celtic on Sunday. 

The win sees Hearts go eight points at the top of the competition ladder. The last time a team other than Celtic or Rangers won the Scottish top flight was more than 40 years ago. 

Elsewhere in the competition, Keanu Baccus (cap #628) played the full game for St Mirren FC in a 3-1 loss to Dundee United on Sunday. Fellow Aussie Zac Sapsford also found the net for United.  

Finally, Apostolos Stamatelopoulos (cap #644) played 81 minutes and scored a goal in Motherwell's 2-1 win over Livingston FC on Sunday.

In Japan, Mitch Duke (cap #559) started and played 57 minutes for Machida Zelvia on Saturday in the J. League as they drew 0-0 with Urawa Red Diamonds.

Continuing in Japan, Jason Geria (cap #586) played another full game for Albirex Niigata in a 2-2 draw with Vissel Kobe on Sunday.


In Austria, new Socceroo Jacob Italiano (cap #653) played a full game for Grazer AK in a 1-0 loss to LASK on Sunday.

Elsewhere in Austria, September call-up Noah Botic started and played 66 minutes on Monday as Austria Wien lost 3-0 to FC Red Bull Salzburg.

Marco Tilio (cap #616) was an unused substitute for Rapid Wien as they returned to Austrian Bundesliga action on Monday in a 2-0 win over SV Ried.

Moving to Croatia, September window call-up Anthony Kalik came off the bench in the 84th minute for Hajduk Split in a 3-1 win over HNK Gorica on Saturday. 

Moving back to the Netherlands, Josh Nisbet (#642) played another full game for Roda JC Kerkrade in a 2-2 draw with Vitesse on Saturday in the Eerste Divisie.

In Spain's second tier, Awer Mabil (cap #597) played the first half for Castellon in a 1-0 loss to UD Almería on Monday.

In Thailand, Kenny Dougall (cap #608) played the full game for Buriram United in a 2-1 win over Rayong FC on Sunday.

In the K2 League, Harrison Delbridge (cap #623) came off the bench in the 80th minute for Incheon United in a 3-0 win over Gyeongnam FC on Sunday.
