Socceroos Abroad: Izzo keeps clean sheet, O'Neill completes New York move

It was a mixed weekend for our Socceroos abroad this weekend as Aiden O'Neill moved across the Atlantic to American side New York City, while Paul Izzo kept a clean sheet in Denmark.

However, there were some tough results for Aussies in Europe and Asia.

Here is a look at how they fared.

In transfer news, Aiden O'Neill (cap #629) completed a move to MLS side New York City over the weekend, signing until 2028. The midfielder was an ever-present feature of Standard Liege's team this season, captaining the Belgian giants.

 


In Denmark, Paul Izzo kept a clean sheet for Randers as they played out a 0-0 draw with Brondby on Saturday morning. 

In Croatia, Fran Karacic (cap #607) played a full game for NK Lokomotiva as they lost 2-1 to NK Varazdin on Sunday. 

Over to Japan, where Thomas Deng (cap #598) played a full game for Yokohama F.Marinos in their 4-1 loss to Al-Nassr on Sunday morning in the AFC Champions League Elite. 

In France's Ligue 1, Maty Ryan (cap #555) was Lens goalkeeper in their 4-0 loss to Auxerre on Monday morning. 

In Scotland, Martin Boyle (cap #599) and Nectarios Triantis played full games for Hibernian as they lost 1-0 to Aberdeen, ending a 17-game unbeaten run. 

Also, Cameron Devlin (cap #625) played a full game for Hearts in their 1-0 defeat to Dundee FC on Sunday morning. 

Further in the Scottish top flight, Josh Nisbet (cap #642) came on in the 59th minute of Ross County's 2-0 loss to Kilmarnock on Sunday. 

Finally, Ryan Strain (cap #624) played all of Dundee United's 5-0 loss to Celtic on Saturday night, scoring an own goal. 

In the German Bundesliga, Connor Metcalfe (cap #611) was sent off for St. Pauli in a 0-0 draw on Monday against Werder Bremen. 

In the English Premier League, Cameron Burgess (cap #633) played all of Ipswich Town's 3-0 loss to Newcastle United on Sunday. Massimo Luongo (cap #575) was subbed on in the 86th minute for the side. 

Alex Robertson (cap #630) played 78 minutes for Cardiff City in their 0-0 draw with West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.  

In League One, Joe Gauci (cap #631) was the Barnsley goalkeeper as they lost 2-1 to Shewsbury Town on Sunday morning. 

Elsewhere in League One, Keanu Baccus (cap #628) played a full game for Mansfield Town as they lost 4-0 to Birmingham City on Monday.

Samuel Silvera (cap #634) was on the Blackpool FC bench for their 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic on Sunday.

Also, Gethin Jones (cap #639) played a full game for Bolton Wanderers as they drew 1-1 with Peterborough United on Sunday.

In Korea's second tier, John Iredale (cap #640) notched a match-winning brace for Seoul E-Land in a 2-1 win over Gyeongnam on Saturday afternoon. The striker has five goals in the competition this season. 

Ajdin Hrustic (cap #589) was subbed on at halftime of Salernitana's 3-1 victory against Cosenza on Saturday morning. The result keeps Salernitana a point ahead of the relegation places. 

In the J1 League, Mitchell Duke (cap #559) played 77 minutes of Machida Zelvia's 1-0 loss to Shonan Bellmare on Friday night. 

Elsewhere in the competition, Jason Geria (cap #586) played a full game for Albirex Niigata on Saturday afternoon as they drew 1-1 with Kashiwa Reysol.

In MLS, Kye Rowles (cap #622) played all of DC United's 3-0 loss to Philadelphia Union on Sunday morning. 

Staying in the United States, Patrick Yazbek (cap #641) played all of Nashville's 7-2 win over Chicago Fire on Sunday morning. 

Finally, in America, Brad Smith (cap #575) was subbed on in the 85th minute of Cincinnati's 2-1 win over Sporting KC on Sunday. 

In the Scottish Championship, Ryan McGowan (cap #546) played 63 minutes for Livingston as they beat Hamilton Academical 3-0 on Sunday morning. Dylan McGowan (cap #590) played a full game for Hamilton Academical. 

In Spain’s Segunda Division, Awer Mabil (cap #597) came on at halftime in Castellon's 1-0 loss to Malaga on Monday.

Elsewhere in the competition on Monday, Denis Genreau (cap #610) came off the bench in the 83rd minute to score a late consolation for Deportivo La Coruna before being sent off as the side went down 2-1 to Racing Santander.

 


Curtis Good (cap #569) played a full game for Buriram United as they lost 3-0 to Al Ahli in the AFC Champions League Elite. Kenny Dougall (cap #608) was on the bench for United.

Subway Olyroos

In the Austrian Bundesliga, Jacob Italiano played a full game for Grazer AK as they drew 1-1 with Hartberg on Saturday morning. Jed Drew came on in the 72nd minute for Hartberg. 

Giuseppe Bovalina was in the Vancouver Whitecaps squad as they downed Lionel Messi's Inter Miami 2-0 on Friday afternoon in the first leg of the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
