Socceroos Abroad: Karacic scores again, Miller stars in first Blackburn start

There was plenty of midweek action for our Socceroos abroad this week across European qualification and domestic cups, with some notable displays in England.

Fran Karacic scored his second goal in four games in Croatia, and there is regular weekend action to be played for Aussies as well. 

Here is a look at the latest Socceroos abroad activity. 

Subway Socceroos

Fran Karacic (cap #607) scored his second goal, playing a full game for Hajduk Split as the side lost 3-1 to Dinamo City after extra time in UEFA Conference League qualification. A 2-1 win for the Croatian side in the first leg was not enough to see them continue in qualifying. Karacic could start on Monday at 5:00am (AEST) in Croatia's HNL against Slaven. 

Also in Conference League qualification, Martin Boyle (cap #599) played until the end of regular time in Hibernian's 4-3 aggregate win over Partizan Beograd. Despite losing in extra time on the night 3-2, a 2-0 victory in the first leg was enough to send the side through to the play-off round. 

Boyle could start on Monday at 12:00am (AEST) against Ryan McGowan's (cap #546) Livingston in the Scottish League Cup.

There were plenty of Socceroos in EFL Cup action on Wednesday, as several produced standout performances for their new clubs early on. 

Lewis Miller (cap #635) stepped up with a strong performance in Blacktown Rovers' 2-1 loss to Bradford City, making three interceptions and four clearances in his start for the club. The fullback should be in Blackburn's squad as they host Birmingham City on Sunday at 12:00am (AEST). 

 

Cameron Burgess (cap #633) played all of Swansea's 3-1 win over Crawley Town, winning five of seven aerial duels. Burgess is likely to start on Sunday at 12:00am (AEST) when Swansea host Sheffield United in the EFL Championship. 

Nestory Irankunda (cap #643) played all of Watford's 2-1 loss to Norwich. The 19-year-old should be involved in Sunday's Championship clash against Queens Park Rangers at 12:00am (AEST). 


Hayden Matthews (cap #648) played a full game for Portsmouth as they lost 2-1 to Reading. Matthews is likely to be on the bench for Portsmouth's home match against Norwich on Saturday at 9:30pm (AEST). 

Callum Elder (cap #614) played a full match for Derby County in their 4-3 win against West Brom. Elder will target his first minutes of the Championship season as Derby face Coventry on Saturday at 9:30 pm (AEST). 

Massimo Luongo's (cap #575) was integral to Millwall's 1-0 victory over Newport. The midfielder created two chances, while winning eight of nine tackles. 

Tom Glover was the goalkeeper for Middlesbrough as they lost 4-0 to Doncaster Rovers. Glover is likely to return to the bench for Boro's away trip to Luongo's Millwall on Sunday at 12:00am (AEST), while Sam Silvera (cap #634) could be back in the team. 

In UEFA Champions League qualification, Jordan Bos (cap #632) played a full game for Feyenoord in their 5-2 loss to Fenerbache. Bos could start on Sunday at 2:45am (AEST) against Excelsior in Eredivisie. 

Furthermore, in the Eredivisie, Max Balard should start on Monday at 4:00am (AEST).  

Elsewhere in the Netherlands, Josh Nisbet (#642) is likely to start for Roda JC Kerkrade in their Eerste Divisie clash with De Graafschap on Saturday at 4:00am (AEST). 

In other European football, Nick D'Agostino (cap #621) was subbed on in the 78th minute of Viking's 1-1 draw with Basaksehir in UEFA Conference League qualification on Thursday. Viking's Norwegian Eliteserien campaign starts in two weeks. 

Further, Mohamed Toure (cap #636) was taken off after 12 minutes due to injury in Randers' 3-2 loss to OB on Monday morning in the Danish Superligaen. The striker picked up an assist early on before leaving the field. 

In England's National League Cup, Garang Kuol (cap #627) played 56 minutes as Newcastle United's academy beat Gateshead 4-3 on Thursday morning. 

Also in England, Gethin Jones (cap #639) could feature on Sunday at 12:00am (AEST) against Cheltenham in EFL League One. 

In the Belgian Pro League, Ryan Teague (cap #649) could feature for KV Mechelen when they host Gent on Sunday at 2:15 am (AEST). 

In Serbia, Milos Degenek (cap #585) could start on Monday at 3:00 am (AEST) as TSC welcome OFK Beograd in the Super Liga. 

In Italy, Alessandro Circati (cap #637) may be in Parma's squad as they host Pescara on Monday at 2:30am (AEST) in the Coppa Italia. 

There are several Socceroos who are set to feature in the Scottish League Cup Round of 16. 

Kusini Yengi (cap #638) could start when Aberdeen travel to Scottish Championship outfit Greenock Morton on Sunday at 12:00am (AEST). 

At the same time, Cameron Devlin (cap #625) might start against Keanu Baccus (cap #628) of St. Mirren. 

Also, Apostolos Stamatelopoulos (cap #644) could get some minutes for Motherwell against St. Johnstone.

Over to the MLS, where Kye Rowles (cap #622) might start for DC United when they travel to Montreal on Sunday at 9:30am (AEST). 

Elsewhere in the competition, Patrick Yazbek (cap #641) is set to be in Nashville's squad for their away tie against Aiden O'Neill's (cap #629) New York City on Monday at 7:00am (AEST).  

In Japan, Thomas Deng (cap #598) could start on Saturday at 7:30pm (AEST) as Yokohama F. Marinos travel to Shimizu S-Pulse in J1 League. 

Elsewhere in the J1 League, Mitch Duke (#559) is likely to be on Machida Zelvia's bench when they host Cerezo Osaka on Saturday at 8:00pm (AEST)  

In Korea, John Iredale (cap #640) might start against Gyeongnam for Seoul E-Land on Saturday at 8:00pm (AEST). 

Elsewhere in the K2 League, Harrison Delbridge (cap #623) could start for Incheon United when they host Seongnam at the same time. 

In transfer news, Joe Gauci (cap #631) completed his loan move to EFL League One side Port Vale. The 25-year-old featured seven times for Barnsley in the second half of the 2024/25 season and came off the bench twice this pre-season for parent club Aston Villa. 

 


Gauci made the bench for Port Vale's 1-0 win over Blackpool in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

Subway Olyroos 

In the Austrian Bundesliga, Jed Drew could start for Hartberg on Sunday at 1:00am (AEST) against Salzburg. 

Adrian Segecic picked up an assist in Portsmouth's 2-1 loss to Reading in the EFL Cup. Thomas Waddingham played an hour for Portsmouth, while Jacob Farrell completed a full game for the side. 

In EFL League One, Nicholas Bilokapic may be involved for Peterborough against Wigan Athletic on Sunday at 12:00am (AEST).
