Socceroos Abroad: Boyle assists, Souttar impressive ahead of September qualifiers

As our Socceroos prepare to head into camp, there were positive performances across the globe as Martin Boyle assisted and more minutes were notched up in some of Europe's top leagues.

Starting in Scotland, where Lewis Miller (cap #635) played a full game for Hibernian alongside Olyroo Nectarios Triantis while Martin Boyle (cap #599) started and played 74 minutes and assisted in a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock on Monday after a neat one-two move.

 


Elsewhere in Scotland's top flight, Cameron Devlin (cap #625) came off the bench in the 69th and Kye Rowles (cap #622) was an unused substitute as Heart of Midlothian lost 1-0 against Dundee United on Monday.

Meanwhile, Josh Nisbet (cap #642) played 81 minutes for Ross County in a 1-0 loss to Aberdeen on Sunday. 

In Germany, where Jackson Irvine (#568) and Connor Metcalfe (#611) both played full games for St Pauli in a 1-0 loss to Union Berlin on Saturday as their search for points in the top division continues.


In Italy, Alessandro Circati (cap #637) played another full game as Parma suffered a last-minute 2-1 defeat to Napoli on Sunday.

Circati had 100% pass accuracy and won 75% of his ground duels throughout the 90 minutes.

Elsewhere in Serie A, Maty Ryan's (cap #555) was also on the bench as Roma drew 0-0 with Juventus on Monday.

In the Premier League, Joe Gauci (cap #631) was on the bench in Aston Villa's 2-1 win over Leicester City on Sunday. 

Massimo Luongo (cap #571) was also an unused substitute in Ipswich Town's 1-1 draw with Fulham at the same time. 

In the Championship, Harry Souttar (cap #606) played a full game for Sheffield United in the Championship on Monday, helping record a clean sheet as the Blades beat Watford 1-0. Souttar boasted a 94% passing accuracy rating while notching 10 defensive actions, including six clearances.

Alexander Robertson (cap #630) started and played 62 minutes in Cardiff City's 2-0 loss to Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Samuel Silvera (cap #634) started and played 60 minutes, while Kusini Yengi (cap #638) came off the bench at that same time as Portsmouth lost 3-1 to Sunderland on Sunday.

The Belgian First Division A season also continued for Aiden O’Neill (cap #629) as he played another full game for Standard de Liège in a 2-0 loss to Oud-Heverlee Leuven on Sunday.

In the Swiss Super League, returning Socceroo Awer Mabil (cap #597) played 85 minutes for Grasshopper in a 2-1 loss to Yverdon Sport FC on Sunday.

In the J1 League, Mitch Duke (cap #559) came off the bench in the 64th minute as Machida Zelvia secured a last-minute 2-2 draw against Urawa Red Diamonds on Saturday. The draw puts them level on points with Sanfrecce at the top of the table.


Callum Elder (cap #614) played a full game for Derby County in a 3-0 win over Bristol City on Sunday.

In the Scottish Championship, Ryan McGowan (cap #546) played a full game for Livingston in a 1-0 win over Raith Rovers on Sunday.

In France, Denis Genreau (cap #610) was an unused substitute for Toulouse as they continued their Ligue 1 campaign with a 3-1 loss to Marseille on Sunday.

Over to Denmark, where Mohamed Toure (cap #636) started and played 59 minutes while recent call-up Paul Izzo was also in goal for Randers as they beat John Iredale's (cap #640) AaB Fodbold 1-0 on Monday. Iredale also started and played 59 minutes.

In Sweden, Alex Gersbach (cap #587) was an unused substitute for Kalmar FF in a 1-1 draw with GAIS on Saturday.

In Norway’s Eliteserien, Gianni Stensness (cap #671) played another full game for Viking FK in a 2-2 draw with Tromsø IL on Monday.

In Major League Soccer, Brad Smith (cap #575) was on the bench for Houston Dynamo in a 2-0 win over LAFC on Sunday.

Subway Olyroos

As mentioned above, Nectarios Triantis played a full game for Hibernian in a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock on Monday after completing his loan from Sunderland for the remainder of the 2024/25 season. 

 

Giuseppe Bovalina came off the bench in the 92nd minute for the Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS on Sunday in a 1-0 win over Austin.
