Socceroos Abroad: McGree stars in midweek, Socceroos reunion as Ipswich face Spurs

Riley McGree stood out during the week, guiding Middlesbrough to a convincing win, while there were other good performances too from our Socceroos abroad. 

This weekend there will be an AFC Asian Cup 2015 reunion in the English Premier League as Ipswich Town face Tottenham Hotspur as well as some critical matches for Socceroos ahead of the November international window. 

Riley McGree (cap #509) was integral to Middlesbrough’s 4-1 win against Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday morning in the EFL Championship. The midfielder bagged a goal and an assist, taking his goal contributions tally for the season to five.

 


McGree is set to start once more on Saturday at 11:30 pm (AEDT) against Luton Town.

Garang Kuol (cap #627) played 68 minutes of Newcastle United Academy’s 1-1 draw with Tamworth on Wednesday in the National League Cup Group C.

In the UEFA Champions League, Joe Gauci (cap #631) was on the bench for Aston Villa’s 1-0 loss to Club Brugge on Thursday. Gauci should be on the bench again when Villa travel to Liverpool on Sunday at 7:00 am (AEDT).

On Wednesday morning, Harry Souttar (cap #606) played all of Sheffield United’s late 2-1 win over Bristol City in the EFL Championship. United were 1-0 down heading into the final five regular minutes of the match before two goals saw them snatch the points.

 


Souttar is set to start again on Sunday at 11:30 pm (AEDT) against Sheffield Wednesday.

Also in the competition on Wednesday, Kusini Yengi (cap #638) played 74 minutes for Portsmouth as they lost 1-0 to Plymouth Argyle. Samuel Silvera (cap #634) replaced Yengi in the match.

The pair should be involved on Sunday against Preston North End at 2:00 am (AEDT).

Finally, Callum Elder (cap #614) played the first half of Derby County’s 2-1 win over Coventry City on Thursday morning.

Elder could play for Derby when they face Plymouth Argyle on Sunday at 2:00 am (AEDT).

Cameron Devlin (cap #625) and Kye Rowles (cap #622) started on the bench for Hearts as they lost 2-0 to FC Heidenheim on Friday morning in the UEFA Conference League. Devlin came on in the 64th minute for Hearts.

The pair could be back in the starting for Hearts as they travel to Rangers in the Scottish Premiership on Monday at 4:00 am (AEDT).

In the Europa League, Maty Ryan (cap #555) was on the bench for Roma as they drew 1-1 with Union St Galloise on Friday morning. Ryan should be on the bench against Bologna on Monday at 1:00 am (AEDT) in Serie A.

Kenny Dougall (cap #608) and Curtis Good (cap #569) played 61 minutes of Buriram United’s 5-0 loss to Yokohama F.Marinos on Wednesday night in the AFC Champions League Elite East. Dougall and Good are set to start again on Sunday at 10:00 pm (AEDT) when Buriram face Rayong in Thai League.

In the AFC Champions League Two, Bailey Wright (cap #576) played a full game for Lion City Sailors as they lost 3-2 to Persib Bandung on Thursday night.

In the English Premier League, Cameron Burgess (cap #633) and Massimo Luongo (cap #571) should be involved for Ipswich Town when they face Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur on Monday at 1:00 am (AEDT). Luongo opened the scoring for Postecoglou’s Socceroos as they claimed the AFC Asian Cup 2015.

 


Denis Genreau (cap #610) might be in Toulouse’s squad for their away trip to Rennes on Monday at 3:00 am (AEDT) in Ligue 1.

In the Scottish Premiership, Martin Boyle (cap #599) and Lewis Miller (cap #635) could start for Hibernian against St. Mirren on Sunday at 2:00 am (AEDT).

Elsewhere in Scotland, Apostolos Stamatelopoulos (cap #644) is in line for a start when Motherwell host St. Johnstone on Sunday at 2:00 am (AEDT).

Josh Nisbet (cap #642) is set to start for Ross County in their away trip to Ryan Strain’s (cap #624) Dundee United on Sunday at 2:00 am (AEDT).

In the Scottish Championship, Ryan McGowan (cap #546) will face his brother Dylan McGowan (cap #590) on Sunday at 2:00 am (AEDT) when Livingston travel to Hamilton Academical.

In the Bundesliga, Jackson Irvine (#568) should start for St. Pauli when they face Nestory Irankunda’s (cap #643) Bayern Munich on Sunday at 1:30 am (AEDT).

In Belgium’s First Division A, Jordan Bos (cap #632) could start for Westerlo when they take on Sporting Charleroi on Sunday at 6:45 am (AEDT).

Louis D'Arrigo could be involved in Lechia Gdansk’s Polish I Liga clash with Korona Kielce on Saturday at 10:15 pm (AEDT).

In the Scottish Premiership, Nectarios Triantis is set to start for Hibernian when they host St. Mirren on Sunday at 2:00 am (AEDT).

Jacob Italiano could start for Gazer AK as they host WSG Tirol on Sunday at 3:00 am (AEDT) in the Austrian Bundesliga.
