Irankunda magic returns to Portugal
Nestory Irankunda will hope to bring some of his free kick magic back to clubland in Portugal when he returns to Sporting CP this weekend.
Sporting are currently third in Liga Portugal, six points behind Porto in first, who have started the season with a perfect seven wins from seven games. Their opponents this weekend, Braga, will be one of Sporting's challengers for European qualification spots.
The creative forward scored a stunning free kick in the Socceroos 1-1 draw with Brazil, curling past the goalkeeper from outside the penalty area. He also created a big chance and had four progressive carries in that game.
Irankunda has made five appearances for Sporting this season, starting in the fixture against Arouca before the international break. The 20-year-old has shown glimpses of the kind of quality he can bring to the side and more minutes will only bring more moments for the youngster to impress.
Fixture: Braga v Sporting CP, Saturday 10 October, 6.15am AEDT
Title challenge in sights for Yengi
Tete Yengi's Machida Zelvia have been incredibly impressive to start the season, and the tall forward will look to help his side continue their hot streak when they take on Kyoto Sanga this weekend.
Machida are currently fourth in the J1 League, only two points away from top of the table. They have five wins and two draws from their eight games so far.
Yengi has been a key part to that success. He scored in consecutive games to begin the season and has been a regular starter since. He also scored in the side's 2-0 win in their ACL2 opener.
Three points this weekend could see them finish the round top of the table.
Fixture: Kyoto Sanga v Machida Zelvia, Saturday 10 October, 9.00pm AEDT
Metcalfe looks to lift St Pauli
St Pauli have struggled to pick up wins to start the 2.Bundesliga season but, with the return of a fit and firing Metcalfe, they are hoping to change that.
Metcalfe missed the start of the season with a muscle injury but on his return starred in the club's victory against Wolfsburg. In their only three points of the campaign so far, the 26-year-old made five key passes, created two big chances and made three interceptions.
Now - after scoring a spectacular long-range strike in the Socceroos' second friendly against Brazil - Metcalfe will be raring to help lift his side into contention for promotion back into the Bundesliga.
Fixture: St Pauli v Karlsruher, Sunday 11 October, 10.30pm AEDT
