Socceroos Abroad: Ryan eyes European football, Circati could return

As the action intensifies across the globe, Subway Socceroos skipper Maty Ryan continues to shine for RC Lens in their pursuit of European qualification, while Alessandro Circati edges closer to a return for Parma.

Starting in France, where Maty Ryan (cap #555) should be in goal again for RC Lens when they face Brest on Monday at 1:15am (AEST) as the battle for European places heats up in Ligue 1.

Lens are two points behind Brest and five points away from a Europa Conference League qualifying spot.

In the Saudi Pro League, Craig Goodwin (cap #562) is likely to feature for Al-Wehda when they travel to Al-Taawoun FC on Sunday at 4am (AEST).

With seven matches to go, Al-Wehda sit in 17th place, one point behind 16th-placed Al-Okhdood and three points away from safety.

In Italy, Alessandro Circati (cap #637) could be in the matchday squad again when Parma host Juventus FC on Tuesday at 4:45am (AEST). 

The 21-year-old defender, who ruptured his ACL in September, returned to Parma's roster last weekend for their recent 0-0 draw with Fiorentina. 

While he was an unused substitute, Circati's speedy recovery suggests he could gain crucial game time before the season's end, making himself available for Socceroos selection ahead of Australia's all-important June qualifiers against Japan and Saudi Arabia.
 

 


In the German Bundesliga, FC St. Pauli captain Jackson Irvine (cap #568) is sidelined for the time being after the club revealed he suffered an injury to his left foot. The injury follows their victory over Holstein Kiel, with Irvine reporting pain afterwards.

His absence comes as St. Pauli look to secure their Bundesliga survival, sitting seven points clear of the relegation play-off spot.

Connor Metcalfe (cap #611) could feature when they host second-placed Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Monday at 3:30am (AEST).

In the English Premier League, Cameron Burgess (cap #633) could feature alongside Massimo Luongo (cap #575) for Ipswich Town when they host Arsenal FC on Sunday at 11pm (AEST). 
 

 


Ipswich sit in 18th place and face an uphill battle to avoid relegation.

In the English Championship, Kusini Yengi (cap #638) could appear again for Portsmouth when they travel to Norwich City on Saturday at 12am (AEST).

Riley McGree (cap #509) could feature alongside Tom Glover on Saturday at 12am (AEST) against Plymouth Argyle FC. 

Boro have slipped to eighth, trailing Bristol City by four points, with their play-off hopes now hinging on a strong finish to the season.

Alex Robertson (cap #630) is likely to appear again for Cardiff City on Saturday at 2:30am (AEST) against Sheffield United FC while Callum Elder (cap #614) could also feature for Derby County on Friday at 9:30pm (AEST) against Luton Town.

In League One, Keanu Baccus (cap #628) should start again for Mansfield Town on Saturday at 12am (AEST) against Rotherham United FC.

Gethin Jones (cap #639) should appear for Bolton Wanderers against Wycombe Wanderers FC on Saturday at 12am (AEST).

Elsewhere in Scotland, Cameron Devlin (cap #625) could feature alongside Subway Olyroo Calem Nieuwenhof when Hearts face Aberdeen on Sunday at 9:30pm (AEST) in the Scottish Cup semi-finals.

In the Scottish Championship, Ryan McGowan (cap #546) should play again for Livingston when they host Ayr United FC on Saturday at 4:45am (AEST).

Dylan McGowan (cap #590) could also feature for Hamilton Academical on Sunday at 12am (AEST) against Queen's Park FC in the Championship.

In the Belgian First Division A, Aiden O’Neill (cap #629) should start for Standard Liege when they face Westerlo on Sunday at 4:45am (AEST).

In Croatia, Fran Karacic (cap #607) could also feature for NK Lokomotiva when they face NK Slaven Belupo on Saturday at 12am (AEST).
 


Over to Japan and the J1 League, where Thomas Deng (cap #598) played another full game on Wednesday for Yokohama F. Marinos in a 3-2 loss to Shimizu S-Pulse.

They face Urawa Red Diamonds on Sunday at 5pm (AEST).

Elsewhere in the J1 League, Mitchell Duke (cap #559) should feature for Machida Zelvia on Sunday at 3pm (AEST) when they travel to Vissel Kobe.

Jason Geria (cap #586) could also feature for Albirex Niigata when they face Kyoto Sanga FC on Saturday at 3pm (AEST) in the J1 League.

In MLS, Kye Rowles (cap #622) is likely to start again for DC United when they travel to New York Red Bulls on Sunday at 9:30am (AEST).

Staying in the United States, Patrick Yazbek (cap #641) could also feature for Nashville SC when they face Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday at 9:30am (AEST).

Brad Smith's (cap #575) FC Cincinnati also face Chicago Fire FC on Sunday at 10:30am (AEST).

In Denmark, Mohamed Toure (cap #636) is likely to feature again alongside Paul Izzo for Randers when they face Brøndby IF on Tuesday at 12am (AEST) in the play-offs.

In Switzerland, Nestory Irankunda (cap #643) could feature for Grasshopper when they host FC Winterthur on Sunday at 2am (AEST).

Kenny Dougall (cap #608) could also play for Buriram United alongside Curtis Good (cap #569) on Saturday at 9:30pm (AEST) against Ratchaburi FC.

Bailey Wright (cap #576) played the full game for Lion City Sailors on Wednesday in a 1-0 win (2-1 aggregate) over Sydney FC in the AFC Champions League 2 semi-finals.

They face Duli Pengiran Muda Mahkota Football Club in the Singapore Cup semi-finals on Tuesday at 9:45pm (AEST).

In the EFL Championship, Thomas Waddingham could appear again for Portsmouth when they travel to Norwich City on Saturday at 12am (AEST).

In the Polish top flight, Louis D’Arrigo could be in the team for Lechia Gdansk’s match against Legia Warszawa on Tuesday at 1:30am (AEST).

Cameron Peupion could start on Sunday at 10:30pm (AEST) when ADO Den Haag face Jong PSV in Eerste Divisie.

Jed Drew could feature on Sunday at 1am (AEST) when TSV Hartberg face SC Rheindorf Altach in the Austrian Bundesliga play-offs.

Elsewhere in the Austrian Bundesliga, Jacob Italiano should feature again for Grazer AK when they face SK Austria Klagenfurt on Sunday at 1am (AEST).
