Socceroos Abroad: Ryan faces former team in Spain, O'Neill continues MLS play-off journey

Socceroos captain Maty Ryan is set to face his former team in Spain, while Nestory Irankunda and Callum Elder could go head-to-head down the wing in England. 

Aiden O’Neill will continue his play-off journey with New York City in the United States.

Here is the preview for this weekend’s action following the November international window.

To begin in Spain, Maty Ryan (cap #555) should start for Levante on Saturday at 7:00 am (AEDT) when they face his former side, Valencia in the derby. Ryan featured over 20 times for Valencia from 2015 to 2016.

In the MLS Cup playoffs, Aiden O’Neill (cap #629) will be in action on Monday morning when New York City face Philadelphia at 11:30 am (AEDT) in a single-elimination Conference Semi-final.

In the EFL Championship action, Nestory Irankunda (cap #643) should be in Watford’s squad for their away trip to Callum Elder's (cap #614) Derby County on Sunday at 2:00 am (AEDT).

Riley McGree (cap #509) and Sam Silvera (cap #634) are likely to be involved for Middlesbrough when they travel to Oxford United at the same time.


Cameron Burgess (cap #633) is set to start for Swansea City as they travel to Bristol City on Saturday at 11:30 pm (AEDT).

Concurrently, Lewis Miller (cap #635) could start for West Brom against Coventry.

Finally, Hayden Matthews (cap #648) will likely be in Portsmouth’s squad to face Millwall on Sunday at 2:00 am (AEDT). 

In Germany's Bundesliga, Connor Metcalfe (cap #611) and Jackson Irvine (cap #568) should be in St. Pauli’s squad for their home match against Union Berlin on Monday at 3:30 am (AEDT).

In the Eredivisie, Ajdin Hrustic (cap #589) will hope to continue his sparkling form when Heracles host Go Ahead Eagles on Sunday at 7:00 am (AEDT).

Elsewhere in the Netherlands top flight, Max Balard (cap #652) is likely to start for NAC Breda as they take on PSV Eindhoven on Sunday at 2:30 am (AEDT).

In Denmark, Paul Izzo (cap #650) and Mohamed Toure (cap #636) could be in action on Tuesday morning at 5:00 am (AEDT) against OB. 


In Norway, Nick D'Agostino (cap #621) and Gianni Stensness (cap #617) may feature on Monday at 5:15 am (AEDT) when Viking take on Fredrikstad. Viking are one point clear at the top of Eliteserien with two matches to play. 

In EFL League One, Joe Gauci (cap #631) should be in goal as Port Vale welcome Plymouth on Saturday at 11:30 pm (AEDT).

Elsewhere in League One, Alex Robertson (cap #630) should start for Cardiff City as they take on Northampton Town on Sunday at 2:00 am (AEDT).

Finally in Scotland, Keanu Baccus (cap #628) is set to start for St. Mirren when they host Celtic on Sunday at 7:00 am (AEDT).

In Poland, November window call-up, Deni Juric should be involved when Wisla Plock face Gornik Zabrze on Saturday at 6:30 am (AEDT). 

Over the international break, Awer Mabil (cap #597) put in a sensational display to kick-start his second, bagging a goal and two assists in Castellon’s 5-4 victory against Real Sociedad B in La Liga 2. The side face Andorra on Sunday at 2:15 am (AEDT).

Moving to Croatia, Fran Karacic (cap #607) could start for Hajduk Split when they take on Rijeka on Sunday at 4:00 am (AEDT).

In Austria, Marco Tilio’s (cap #616) Rapid Wien welcome Jacob Italiano’s (cap #653) Grazer AK on Monday at 3:00 am (AEDT).

In the Czech First League, Garang Kuol (cap #627) may be in Sparta Prague’s team away to Mlada Boleslav.

In Japan, Mitch Duke (cap #559) is likely to be on Machida Zelvia’s bench in their home match against Vissel Kobe on Saturday at 4:00 pm (AEDT). 

In Thailand, Kenny Dougall (cap #608) is set to start for Buriram United in their away trip to Muang Thong United at 11:00 pm (AEDT) on Saturday.
