Socceroos Abroad: Silvera and Baccus meet, crucial matches for Aussie pair

Two Subway Socceroos cross paths in England while important matches await Ajdin Hrustic and Craig Goodwin as their respective clubs aim to push away from the drop zone.

Here is a review of the midweek action and a look ahead to what fans can expect this weekend.

Cameron Devlin (cap #626) played 63 minutes for Hearts as they advanced against St Mirren on penalties in the Scottish FA Cup on Tuesday. Former Subway Olyroo Calem Nieuwenhof scored a late equaliser in the clash.

 

Hearts face Rangers on Sunday at 11:00pm (AEDT) in the Scottish Premiership.

Hayden Matthews (cap #648) came on in the 60th minute of Portsmouth's 2-1 win over Cardiff City on Wednesday.

 

The defender might earn some minutes on Saturday at 11:30pm (AEDT) as Portsmouth face Oxford United.

Cardiff's Alex Robertson (cap #630) may feature against Bristol City on Saturday at 11:30pm (AEDT).

Callum Elder (cap #614) helped keep a clean sheet for Derby County in his full game against Oxford United on Wednesday.

Elder could feature on Saturday at 7:00am (AEDT) as Derby travel to Queens Park Rangers.

In EFL League One, Sam Silvera (cap #634) played 89 minutes for Blackpool in their 0-0 draw with Rotherham United on Wednesday.

The winger might get some minutes on Sunday at 2:00am (AEDT) when Blackpool face Keanu Baccus’ (cap #628) Mansfield Town.

Baccus came on at halftime for Mansfield Town as they lost 3-0 to Leyton Orient on Wednesday.

Elsewhere in League One, Joe Gauci (cap #631) should be the goalkeeper for Barnsley in their home tie with Huddersfield Town on Sunday at 2:00am (AEDT).

Finally, Gethin Jones (cap #639) played all of Bolton Wanderers' 1-0 loss to Wrexham in the EFL Trophy on Wednesday. The defender may start on Sunday at 2:00am (AEDT) against Shrewsbury Town.

Craig Goodwin (cap #562) is set to start again for Al-Wehda on Sunday at 4:00am (AEDT) against league leaders and heavyweights At Ittihad in Saudi Pro League. Al-Wehda lie second to bottom in the standings with three points crucial to their top-flight survival. 

Nestory Irankunda (cap #643) is doubtful for Grasshopper against Servette on Monday at 2:30am (AEDT) in the Swiss Super League after being forced off with an ankle injury last time out.

In the Belgian Pro League, Aiden O'Neill (cap #629) could return to Standard Liege’s starting team on Saturday at 6:45am (AEDT) against Genk.

Jordan Bos (cap #632) is expected to miss Westerlo's clash with Cercle Brugge on Monday at 5:15pm (AEDT) after succumbing to a hamstring issue against Standard Liege.

After starting the first two matches since joining Lens in Ligue 1, Maty Ryan (cap #555) missed last week's match against OGC Nice with a hip complaint and may return against Strasbourg on Monday at 3:15am (AEDT)

In the English Premier League, Cameron Burgess (cap #633) and Massimo Luongo (cap #571) could be involved for Ipswich Town when they travel to Aston Villa on Saturday at 2:00am (AEDT).

Jackson Irvine (cap #568) should start on Sunday at 1:30am (AEDT) when St. Pauli host Freiburg in the Bundesliga.

In Serie B, Ajdin Hrustic (cap #589) may get some game time for Salernitana as they take on Carrarese on Sunday at 1:00am (AEDT). The two teams currently occupy the relegation play-out spots so a win would be vital for I Granata, who are unbeaten in their past two matches.

Martin Boyle (cap #599) and Lewis Miller (cap #635) could start for Hibernian on Monday at 1:00am (AEDT) when they face St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.

Elsewhere in Scotland’s top flight, Ryan Strain (cap #624) is likely to start for Dundee United as they take on league leaders Celtic on Sunday at 2:00 am (AEDT).

Finally, Josh Nisbet (cap #642) could start for Ross County when they travel to Apostolos Stamatelopoulos' (cap #644) Motherwell on Sunday at 2:00 am (AEDT). 

Ryan McGowan (cap #546) is set to start for Livingston on Sunday at 2:00 am (AEDT) when they host Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Championship.

Also, Dylan McGowan (cap #590) should start for Hamilton Academical when they travel to Queen’s Park on Sunday at 2:00 am (AEDT).

The new J1 League season kicks off this weekend where Mitch Duke (cap #559) may line up for Machida Zelvia against Sanfrecce Hiroshima on Sunday at 4:00pm (AEDT).
