Socceroos Abroad: Yengi, Geria score in Japan; Volpato returns

Tete Yengi was on the scoresheet again in Japan, as was fellow CommBank Socceroo Jason Geria in the J2 League.

Elsewhere, Paul Izzo made five saves as his side held on to a scoreless draw while playing 68 minutes with ten men, Cristian Volpato made his return to the pitch after injury, and Lucas Herrington started in the Premier League for the second time.

The Headliners

Yengi continues to fire for Machida

After assisting the team's winner in the ACL2 midweek, Yengi once again had an impact for Machida Zelvia, scoring the team's first goal in their 3-0 victory over Avispa Fukuoka.

The side have had a fantastic start to the J1 League season and are sitting second on the table, only behind first on goal difference. Yengi has been an integral part of their campaign so far, contributing five goals and two assists in all competitions.

They could go top of the table when they take on Shimizu midweek.

Result: Machida Zelvia 3-0 Avispa Fukuoka

Ten men, no problems for Izzo

Paul Izzo stood tall for Randers FC, making five saves and keeping a clean sheet against Horsens after his side were reduced to ten men in the first half.

Randers had to play the majority of the game with a player down after Laurits Pederson was sent packing in the 22nd minute. Izzo ensured that it wasn't too costly for his side, helping them earn a vital point as they hope to haul themselves out of the relegation group.

Result: Horsens 0-0 Randers FC

Volpato returns from injury

Cristian Volpato returned to the park for the first time since his hamstring injury in early September, coming off the bench for Sassuolo for the final few moments of their Serie A clash against Frosinone.

Volpato was in fantastic form prior to the injury and will be hoping to regain that touch as he builds up his fitness.

Sassuolo are currently 12th on the ladder after seven games.

Result: Frosinone 4-2 Sassuolo

Other Headlines

Jason Geria was on the scoresheet for Albirex Niigata, picking up a consolation goal in a 5-1 defeat. Geria has started the last five matches he has been available for in the J2 League. His side are currently third on the ladder, four points behind Vegalta Sendai in first.

Result: Oita 5-1 Albirez Niigata

19-year-old Lucas Herrington started his second Premier League game on the weekend, but in a disappointing result, as Hull City were defeated 1-0 by Fulham. Hull are beginning to wobble after a positive start to the season and will hope to regain their form against Brentford next week.

Result: Fulham 1-0 Hull City
