Over the last few months, we've seen plenty of Subway Socceroos on the move overseas!

Maty Ryan signs with Italian giants AS Roma

Subway Socceroos captain Ryan will call the Stadio Olimpico home for the upcoming Serie A season after signing a one-year deal with AS Roma.

The 32-year-old joins the Giallorossi as a free agent after 18 months in the Eredivisie with AZ Alkmaar where he has agreed to a one-year contract for the 2024/25 campaign with an option reportedly for a second.

Ryan will compete for the number one spot alongside incumbent Serbian shot-stopper Mile Svilar and becomes the first Socceroo to ply his trade for the three-time Serie A champions now coached by Daniele De Rossi.


Nestory Irankunda joins Bayern Munich after season with Adelaide United

Irankunda signed with German giants Bayern Munich from Adelaide United for an undisclosed fee but it was reported to be in the region of £3m ($5.7m AUD) plus add-ons back in November. 

He has now linked up with his new team following the conclusion of the 2023/24 A-League Men's season.

The 18-year-old has already started multiple matches for scored a goal for the FC Bayern Campus Academy side. 


Mohamed Toure transfers to Randers FC from Reims

Toure has secured a move to Danish Superliga side Randers FC from Ligue 1 outfit Reims for an undisclosed fee.

The 20-year-old forward joins the club on a four-year contract until the end of the 2027/28 season, having spent the past two seasons in France with Reims' B and first team and last campaign on loan at Paris FC.

He links up with fellow Australian and former Adelaide United teammate Paul Izzo, who signed with the Horses earlier this month.


Paul Izzo signs three-year deal with Danish Superliga side Randers FC

After departing Melbourne Victory, Izzo has penned a three-year deal with Danish Superliga side Randers FC for an undisclosed fee.

Izzo was one of the A-League's best goalkeepers last season in the Isuzu UTE A-League and his form did not go unnoticed, catching the attention of Subway Socceroos boss Graham Arnold, who rewarded him with a recall for the recent June FIFA Window.


Sammy Silvera signs season-long loan deal with newly promoted EFL Championship side Portsmouth FC

The 23-year-old joins the south coast side from Middlesbrough for the 2024/25 campaign and links up with fellow Socceroo Kusini Yengi.

Silvera joined Boro last season and scored six goals and grabbed three assists in 42 appearances under Michael Carrick after a fantastic year with the Central Coast Mariners in the Isuzu UTE A-League.

Portsmouth won promotion to the Championship after winning League One by five points last season, while playing entertaining football.


Keanu Baccus joins recently promoted EFL League One side Mansfield Town FC on a two-year contract

The 25-year-old had spent the previous two seasons in the Scottish Premiership with St Mirren after arriving from Western Sydney Wanderers, and has now opted for a change of scenery to the Stags following the expiration of his deal.

Baccus played 72 matches for the Paisley-based side, scoring four goals and registering four assists.

The holding midfielder will now move south of the border to ply his trade for the Nottinghamshire side which gained automatic promotion after finishing third in League Two in the recently concluded 2023/24 season.


John Iredale signs with recently promoted Danish Superliga outfit Aalborg BK

The 24-year-old had spent the past two-and-a-half years in the German lower leagues with SV Wehen Wiesbaden and scored 15 goals in 72 appearances, notching five assists and now arrives at the club on a free transfer.

Iredale made his international debut against Lebanon during the March window and scored in the following match against the same opponent in Canberra.

 


Ryan Strain pens two-year contract with newly promoted Scottish Premiership side Dundee United

Following the expiration of his contract with St Mirren, Strain joined Dundee United. The 27-year-old's addition to Jim Goodwin's squad is a massive coup for the Terrors, with Strain to remain in the Scottish top-flight for at least another two seasons.

The Australian international, who has six caps to his name, spent the past two campaigns with the Paisely-based club where he amassed 64 appearance, five goals and 10 assists across all competitions.

Prior to his move to Scotland, the right-back played at Maccabi Haifa in Israel following four years in the Isuzu UTE Men's A-League with Adelaide United.

 

 

Jamie Maclaren signs with Mohun Bagan in India

Maclaren ended speculation about his future, signing a four-year contract with Indian Super League powerhouse Mohun Bagan Super Giant following the conclusion of his contract with Melbourne City. The 30-year-old departed the A-League Men as the competition's all-time top-scorer with 154 goals in 233 matches, winning five A-League Golden Boots.

Maclaren now joins the reigning champions of India and teams up with two Socceroos in Jason Cummings and Dimitri Petratos. Maclaren has scored 11 goals in 32 matches for the Subway Socceroos with his most recent call-up occurring in November 2023. 

 


Yazbek signs for MLS outfit Nashville

Yazbek has moved to Major League Soccer, signing with Nashville on Tuesday following a stint with Viking in Norway. The Sydney FC academy product moved to Eliterserien side Viking in 2023 and made 45 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Yazbek also broke into the Subway Socceroos squad last campaign and made his debut against Lebanon in Canberra, where he notched an assist in a 5-0 victory. The 22-year-old will sign on for Nashville as part of the MLS’ U22 initiative. This allows clubs to sign players aged 22 or younger for unrestricted acquisition fees that do not count towards the salary cap.

 

 Elsewhere, Ryan McGowan (#546) will ply his trade in the Scottish Championship this season after two seasons at St Mirren. The 34-year-old should feature for his new club Livingston when they face Dunfermline Athletic FC on August 3. 

After a disappointing campaign with NK Rudes, Fran Karacic (#607) has also swapped clubs in Croatia after he joined NK Lokomotiva Zagreb in the summer transfer window.

Lokomotiva will be hoping to build on their fifth-placed finish last season when they kick off their campaign on August 4 against Rijeka.
