Socceroos on the move: All of the recent Aussies Abroad transfers

Over the last few months, we've seen plenty of Socceroos on the move overseas!

In case you missed any of them, read on to catch up on all of the recent moves made by Aussies Abroad.

Tilio and Bos

Marco Tilio officially joined Celtic FC, signing a five-year contract until the end of the 2027/28 season, subject to international clearance.

Tilio moved from Melbourne City, breaking the previous Australian transfer record set by teammate Jordan Bos following his switch to Belgium just over a month earlier.

He became the second acquisition since Brendan Rodgers returned to the club as manager this month and will also link up with fellow Aussie Harry Kewell.

The 21-year-old, who has seven caps for the Subway Socceroos, enjoyed a stellar 2022/23 campaign with City, scoring 10 goals and registering six assists in 29 league appearances.

The winger was also named in Graham Arnold's FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ squad.

During his three years with City, Tilio won three consecutive premierships and a championship in 2021, while accumulating 86 matches in all competitions, recording 20 goals and 19 assists.

As his excellent form continued, speculation surrounding his long-term future increased and it was the 53-time Scottish Premiership champions winning the race for his signature.

Jordan Bos headed to Belgium following the completion of his A-League Men's campaign, in a record-breaking transfer.

KVC Westerlo announced that the Subway Socceroos fullback is set to join the club on a four-year deal.

Bos jets off to Europe having risen through the ranks with Melbourne City and representing Australia's U17s, U20s, U23s, and following March's debut against Ecuador, the senior national team.

Despite being just 20 years old, Bos has three A-League Men’s Premierships and a Championship to his name, having scored three goals and registered six assists in 50 appearances for the club.

City announced that they have received a record-breaking transfer fee for Bos, eclipsing the value of Aaron Mooy's move to Manchester City in 2016 - a record that was later overtaken by his club and country teammate Jordan Bos.

English Championship side Middlesbrough FC recently announced the signings of goalkeeper Tom Glover and forward Samuel Silvera.

Glover departed City at the end of his contract after four seasons at the club in search of a European move which has subsequently come to fruition, putting pen-to-paper on a three-year deal.

The 25-year-old was also recently called up to the Subway Socceroos for June friendly against Argentina but was an unused substitute.

Meanwhile, Silvera, 22, also joins Boro on a three-year contract from the Central Coast Mariners, with the undisclosed fee paid to the Gosford outfit a club record.

Silvera, who has represented Australia at the U23 level, scored eight goals and registered five assists during the A-League Men 2022/23 season as the Mariners went on to clinch their first championship in a decade, thrashing Glover's City in the decider.

The pair will link up with fellow Australian and incumbent Subway Socceroo in Riley McGree, who has flourished since his arrival at Riverside Stadium in January 2022.

Subway Socceroos midfielder Aiden O'Neill signed with Belgian Pro League side Standard Liege on a four-year contract.

On Friday, Melbourne City announced O'Neill's departure, to pursue an overseas opportunity and now the holding midfielder has secured a move to the 10-time Belgian champions until the end of the 2026/27 season.

O'Neill had been a vital cog in Melbourne City's midfield since returning in 2020, hitting new heights in 2022/23, and his impressive form coincided with a national team call-up in March, debuting against Ecuador in Sydney to become Socceroos Cap No. 629.

The 24-year-old later went on to help City clinch a third straight Premiership and fourth consecutive Grand Final appearance, finishing the recently concluded campaign with four goals and a further three assists.

It will be the second time O'Neill will embark for Europe having spent four years in England between 2014 and 2018.

Subway Socceroos striker Jason Cummings has a new home after signing with Indian Super League club Mohun Bagan Super Giant for an undisclosed fee, the Central Coast Mariners confirmed.

Cummings was a goal-scoring machine during his 18-month stint in Gosford, scoring 31 goals in 50 appearances since his arrival from Scotland in January 2022.

The 27-year-old became a cult-hero and his strong form saw him named in Graham Arnold's 26-man FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ squad, where he featured against France.

Cummings' prolific season continued following the major tournament and won the Joe Marston Medal after scoring a hat-trick in the Mariners' 6-1 demolition job of Melbourne City in the A-League Grand Final.

The talisman, who has three caps and one goal for Australia, finishes as Central Coast's third-highest scorer.

Bailey Wright is set to ply his trade in Singapore, with the Socceroos defender inking a two-year deal with Singapore Premier League club Lion City Sailors.

The move sees Wright's three-and-a-half year stint with Sunderland AFC come to an end.

While he most recently spent time out on loan at Rotherham, the 30-year-old made a total of 107 appearances for the Black Cats, serving as captain during his time with the Championship club.

Following the announcement of his departure, the Australian penned a heartfelt message to the Sunderland faithful:

The move to Asia brings the curtain down on 14 years spent in the United Kingdom, where Wright represented also represented Preston North End and Bristol City throughout the second and third tiers of English football.

He links up with an ambitious club in the Sailors, who this year return to the AFC Champions League (ACL).

The 29-year-old, who has 44 caps for the Subway Socceroos, spent the past 18 months with the United States side and amassed 41 appearances.
