Every group of qualifying for both tournaments will be contested in a centralised league format, with teams to be seeded into pots based on their final rankings from the corresponding previous edition. This will see the Subway Joeys travel to Kuwait and the Subway Young Socceroos travel to Saudi Arabia.
The 10 Group winners and five best second-placed teams will advance to the Finals for both tournaments, with Saudi Arabia (U17) and China PR (U20) already through as respective hosts.
Subway Joeys Head Coach, Brad Maloney responded to the confirmation of his side’s path to Saudi Arabia in 2025.
“We’re at the beginning of a cycle with this group and we’ve already taken great strides in fostering an environment and style of play that will bring success,” Maloney said.
Qualification for the Asian Cup is a goal we’ve set ourselves, which is the first step on our journey to the U17 World Cup in Qatar.
“We understand the way football in Asia continues to grow and the challenges that our opposition will present, so being at our best from the outset will be extremely important. Now we can get into more detailed preparations ahead of Qualifiers kicking off in October,” Maloney concluded.
The Subway Joeys will shortly head to the 2024 ASEAN U-16 Boys’ Championship held in Surakarta, Indonesia from 21 June – 4 July.
Subway Young Socceroos Head Coach, Trevor Morgan and his squad are currently in transit following their tour of South America, which featured matches against Chile and Uruguay.
The AFC U17 Asian Cup™ will be held between 3 – 20 April, 2025, while the 42nd edition of the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ will be held in China PR from 6 – 23 February, 2025.
