Subway Socceroos at Home: A-League Men’s 2022/23 Round 25 Preview

The penultimate round of the A-League Men 2022/23 regular season is here this weekend with a plethora of Subway Socceroos in action.

Check out the preview below!

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Wellington Phoenix

Brandon Borrello will be looking to continue his blistering form when Western Sydney Wanderers welcome Wellington Phoenix on Friday night.

Borrello was pivotal in his side's 2-1 triumph over 10-man Melbourne Victory last weekend, opening the scoring and later providing an assist for the winning goal.

A win for the equal-third Wanderers would certainly apply the pressure on Central Coast Mariners and second place Adelaide United.

Newcastle Jets vs Central Coast Mariners

Jason Cummings and the Central Coast Mariners do battle against bitter rivals Newcastle Jets in another instalment of the F3 Derby on Saturday afternoon.

The striker has scored in both previous matches against the Jets this season and will no doubt be determined to add to his 16 goals in 2022/23.

Western United vs Melbourne City

Jamie Maclaren, Marco Tilio, Aiden O'Neill and Jordan Bos of Melbourne City face Western United in a Melbourne Derby on Saturday night.

City were crowned Premiers for a third successive season, a feat never achieved until now by an A-League Men's side, after Adelaide United lost at home to Western last round.

But despite wrapping up the league title, motivation remains paramount. Firstly, maintaining the momentum heading into finals as well as an individual accolade up for grabs.

Maclaren just needs three more goals to become the A-League Men's all-time top scorer. He currently leads the Golden Boot race this term with 20 to his name.

Meanwhile, Bos scored his second of the season in stunning fashion last weekend. O'Neill continues to impress in midfield, while Marco Tilio has seven strikes and six assists this season.

City has also confirmed the return of Mathew Leckie after being sidelined since mid-February with a hamstring injury.

Perth Glory vs Adelaide United

Adelaide United's 12 match unbeaten streak ended at the hands of Western United last time out. Joe Gauci and Craig Goodwin will be out to avenge that result and ensure it was just a blip on the radar as the Reds aim to cement second spot on the table.

Goodwin, who brought up 200 A-League Men games last Sunday, is one of the favourites for the Johnny Warren Medal and it is no surprise why with 11 goals and 10 assists in 23 appearances this campaign.

Brisbane Roar vs Sydney FC

Sydney FC and Andrew Redmayne snapped a four-game winless run after defeating Perth Glory 4-1, and hoping to build on that against the Roar on Monday night at Suncorp Stadium.

The Sky Blues will be focused on securing a top-six finish, as they currently lie three points clear of seventh-ranked Newcastle Jets.
