Subway Socceroos squad update - November

The Subway Socceroos can confirm that Nishan Velupillay (Melbourne Victory FC) has not travelled to Riffa ahead of Australia’s upcoming World Cup Qualifier against Bahrain on Tuesday, 19 November (local).

Velupillay suffered an ankle injury shortly after being substituted into play at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium, as the Subway Socceroos played out a tense, scoreless draw with Saudi Arabia.

Following assessment by Subway Socceroos medical staff, Velupillay was sent for scans which revealed he would be unavailable for Australia’s clash with Bahrain.

The Subway Socceroos medical team are now in consultation with Melbourne Victory FC on treatment plans, as Velupillay returns to the care of his club.

There has been no return to play timeline set, with Velupillay to be reviewed by club medical staff before further details are provided on his return.
