Australia held to 2-2 draw against Mexico

The Subway Socceroos and Mexico played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at AT&T Stadium in Dallas for their solitary match of the September window.

Goals to Harry Souttar and Martin Boyle had Graham Arnold’s team 2-0 up before a couple of key defensive lapses allowed their 12th-ranked opposition back into the game.

Mexico kept on threatening, though, and were given another penalty 68 minutes in after Cameron Burgess fouled Uriel Antuna. Substitute Raul Jimenez kept his nerve and converted into the right side of the net to give the Socceroos a tense final 15 minutes in Dallas.

Australia couldn’t hold on as a defensive mix-up proved fatal with seven minutes to go. Cesar Huerta latched onto a long ball into the left channel and lashed it past Ryan into the roof of the net.

Cameron Burgess and Sam Silvera were also the latest Aussies to receive their maiden caps for the Green and Gold.

Subway Olyroos qualify for AFC U23 Asian Cup Qatar 2024™

The Subway Olyroos qualified for the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qatar 2024 after topping Group I on goal difference in Tajikistan. A 1-1 draw against the hosts in Tajikistan, thanks to Cameron Peupion's stunning free-kick, was enough to get the job done.

Tony Vidmar's side had earlier thrashed Laos 7-1 thanks to braces from Nishan Velupillay and Noah Botic, while Louis D’Arrigo, Lachlan Brook and Alou Kuol also found the back of the net in the convincing victory.

Aussies on fire Abroad

When they're not representing our national team, our Subway Socceroos in particular are certainly making an impact for their respective club sides abroad.

Riley McGree has enjoyed an impressive purple patch of late with Middlesbrough and has worked his way back into the starting eleven.

Meanwhile, Connor Metcalfe scored one of the best goals across Europe this season in the 2. Bundesliga for FC St. Pauli.

Martin Boyle has been in solid goal-scoring form for Hibernian as well, and scored a crucial brace in his side's Scottish League Cup win over St Mirren.

Maty Ryan has been assured between the sticks for AZ Alkmaar, keeping a plethora of clean sheets to start the campaign for the Dutch outfit.

There was also history made in Scotland when six Australians - five being Subway Socceroos and one Subway Olyroo - faced each other in a match in Europe.

Craig Goodwin has hit the ground running since returning to Saudi Pro League club Al-Wehda, scoring in each of his three matches.
