Tom Rogic calls time on professional football career

Tom Rogic has announced his retirement from professional football.

Rogic accumulated 53 caps and scored 10 goals for his country after debuting for the Subway Socceroos in November 2012 as a 19-year-old against the Korea Republic.

However, in a post on his Instagram account, the 30-year-old revealed he was hanging up the boots to spend more time with his young family, with his wife expecting twins in 2024.

Regarded as one of Australia's most technically gifted midfielders, Rogic was a part of the squads for the FIFA World Cup Russia 2018™, AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019™ and FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017™.

He started all three group matches at his maiden World Cup, while scoring a crucial last-minute winner against Syria to secure the Green and Gold's passage to the knockout stages of the Asian Cup in January 2019. Rogic also found the net in a defeat against Germany at the Confederations Cup.

The attacking midfielder opened his national team account against Bangladesh in September 2015 and would go on to be an integral cog in the Subway Socceroos' side for the next five years.

Rogic's professional career began in January 2012 after then Central Coast Mariners boss Graham Arnold handed the talented player his debut and few months later collected his first piece of silverware, the A-League Premiership.

His prodigious ability did not go unnoticed and a year later Rogic would join Scottish powerhouse Celtic FC where he would eventually become a mainstay and enjoy immense success.

Following a few appearances for the Bhoys in the calendar year of 2013, the former Mariner was sent on loan to Melbourne Victory in January 2014 before injury ruled out the starlet from the FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup in 2014 and 2015 respectively and missed the entire 2014/15 campaign.

Rogic scored 46 goals in 273 matches in a trophy laden career with Celtic, winning six Scottish Premierships, five cups and five league cups before leaving the Glasgow club at the end of the 2021/22 season.

To cap off an incredible 2021/22, Rogic was named in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year and was also awarded the PFA Australia Men's Footballer of the Year.

He spent his final year with English Championship side West Bromwich Albion.
