Westfield Young Matildas squad named for final camp

Head Coach of the Westfield Young Matildas, Alen Stajcic, has selected a 24-player squad for a training camp on the Gold Coast from 8 to 11 July.

Head Coach of the Westfield Young Matildas, Alen Stajcic, has selected a 24-player squad for a training camp on the Gold Coast from 8 to 11 July.

The camp forms part of the preparations for the upcoming AFC U-19 Women's Championships 2009 to be held in the Chinese city of Wuhan from 1 to 12 August. The Championships will also double as the qualification process for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup to be held in Germany next year.

“The camp is our last chance to work together and prepare as a team before heading to South Korea for a practice match ahead of the Championships,” stated Stajcic.

“We are lucky enough to have a training match against the Westfield Matildas on Friday morning which presents an excellent opportunity for the players to compete in an international-standard match on home soil.

"This camp is our last before final selection for the Championships in China and I expect all the players will be doing their best to make the squad," concluded Stajcic.

Westfield Young Matildas qualified for the AFC U-19 Women's Championships late last year in Kuala Lumpur by finishing second in their qualification group. The AFC U-19 Women's Championships will see Australia match up against Japan, China and Chinese Taipei in Group B.

Football Federation Australia would like to thank the AIS for their ongoing funding support for these camps.
