Mathew Leckie's incredible pace and engine makes him a vital part of the Socceroos' attack.
He carved out a respected reputation in Germany following his move from Adelaide United to Borussia Monchengladbach in 2011, later turning out for FSV Frankfurt and Hertha BSC, where he scored five league goals in his debut season.
The forward has now returned to Australia after a long stint in the German capital, headlining the attack of hometown outfit and A-League champions Melbourne City.
Best Caltex Socceroos moment:
Leckie has been one of the shining lights of the 2014, 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup campaigns with his pace down the right wing causing opposition defences significant trouble. His best tournament occurred in Qatar, scoring a sensational individual goal against Denmark in a must-win game to book Australia's ticket to the Round of 16. Leckie became the ninth Australian goal-scorer at the FIFA World Cup and having started all four games, now holds the Socceroos' FIFA World Cup appearances record alongside Mathew Ryan with 10 - surpassing Tim Cahill and Mark Bresciano.
He was equally effective at the AFC Asian Cups at home in 2015 and in the UAE edition in 2019.
A-League connection:
Leckie set tongues wagging with two electrifying seasons for Adelaide United at the outset of his professional career
