Biography

Synonymous with Australian football both as a player and coach, Tony Popovic was appointed the Subway Socceroos Head Coach in September 2024 and extends through the FIFA World Cup 2026™, marking a new era for the national team.

Capped 58 times for the Socceroos between 1995 and 2006, Popovic enjoyed a successful career for both club and country and was part of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ squad.

Popovic played professionally in Australia, Japan, England, and Qatar, including a significant stint with Crystal Palace in the English Premier League. He retired professionally in 2008 before venturing into coaching which has seen him at the helm of Western Sydney Wanderers, Perth Glory and Melbourne Victory in the A-League Men's competition as well as brief stints in Turkey and Greece.

Popovic has won two A-League Premierships, an Australia Cup and the AFC Asian Champions League in 2014 while in charge of the Wanderers.
